Catering service in trains

Came across an unique but must say an largely unmet need of supplying food to your coach while travelling in a train which is called DeliveryUncle.

More on the steps to order courtsey www.deliveryuncle.com

Step 1 - Search for the delivery railway station and provide PNR

Step 2 - Place your order over phone

Step 3 - Food is served to your coach

A very good alternative to the IRCTC catering services which over years sadly have only deteriotated. One look inside the Pantry car and you will never touch that food again.

The only thing that needs to be checked is whether the delivery locations as mentioned in the website do have a quality check to confirm the authencity of the food served. Plus if the food is served at non meal times too.

re: Catering service in trains

A huge relief to rail users. I never used to buy any food from IRCTC, used to carry a tiffin and fruits for journeys.

There should be more number of Delivery Stations. The FAQ section clears almost all the doubts. Why is the menu restricted to veg? e-pay option would be nice (provided the trains run on time :-) )

There is another one whose ads I have been seeing for months now.

Seems decent, food seems pricey, but it's from good restaurants so a little premium is ok.

Tried to check the site but it does not load up. Also checked for a sub link but goes to a blog. Seems like this has gone kaput.

Came across some more sites with similar service -

1. Trainkhana.com

http://www.trainkhana.co.in/stations/locations

This has around 46 stations where the service is offered currently

2. Idlyvada.com

http://www.idlyvada.com/location.php

This has around 85 stations where the service is offered currently.

This site is not only covering maximum stations among other but also the minimum order is one of the lowest at Rs.300

Anyone on TBHP who has availed such service?

Also what stops the miscreants to place orders and not take it or perhaps place order on someone else's seat no?

Raliway e-catering - Food on Track

Food delivery services in trains have come a long way from some standalone operators like discussed in the above threads and now covered comprehensively in the latest Rail Budget which will be handled by IRCTC.

Quote:
E-catering services will be extended to 408 stations from 40 now, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said here on Thursday.

"IRCTC will manage catering services in a phased manner," Prabhu said while presenting the Railway Budget 2016-17 in parliament.

He also said catering services will be unbundled by IRCTC by categorizing into food preparation and food distribution.
Quote:
More than 70 vendors including big chains such as KFC, Dominos and e-commerce companies like TravelKhana.com and food portal FoodPanda have tied up with Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation to provide food on train.

Re: Catering service in trains

www.khanaonline.in (09922800051) was another website and I had received this as a whatsapp message somewhere in 2013 with the only condition to call 1 hour before the train reaches any of their stations. I did visit the website back then and the options were very good. I never got to use it because my train travel is almost zero.

I recently used such a service. I was traveling from Rajasthan to Mumbai and needed to order dinner. This is a very convenient option for people traveling alone or people who do not have time to prepare food for train journeys. There are many suppliers who serve food and you can get them on IRCTC website. You should go the website and enter your train name and the station where you want your food. Depending upon that, the website will show you the vendors who will deliver food to that station. Select the vendor, enter the quantity, enter your PNR number and that is it. You can pay by credit/debit card and also choose Cash on Delivery. When I ordered, I got an OTP on my mobile phone which I had to give to the delivery person when he delivered the food. I had ordered a normal veg thali which had 2 vegetables, 4 chapatis, 1 sweet, Dal, rice, curd. The food was tasty and very well packed.
