From Rediff today:

Malaysia confirms that the Debris found in Tanzania is from MH370.

A large piece of debris discovered on the island of Pemba, off the coast of Tanzania, in June was from the missing Malaysia Airlines jet MH370. ..The debris, an outboard flap, will be examined further to see if it can yield any insight into the circumstances around the missing plane, the Malaysian transport minister, Liow Tiong Lai, said.

Investigators have previously confirmed a piece of plane debris found on the French island of Runion in July 2015 as being part of the MH370.

They are examining several other pieces of debris found in Mozambique, South Africa and Rodrigues Island, a territory of Mauritius.

Came across this very interesting video, some details on the 777 gear.

Is MH370 going to be the same case as that of Emelia Earhart ?. Looks like the Malaysian Govt is keen on coming out of this episode ASAP fearing huge compensation.
Emelia's case was a different one considering that she went missing in 1937 when search methodologies were not upto the mark.
But what about MH370 ?

The Search For Flight MH370 Officially Comes To An End.

Quoting from the article :

Quote:

Today the last search vessel has left the underwater search area. Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has not been located in the 120,000 square-kilometer underwater search area in the southern Indian Ocean,” the statement read.
Quote:

“Today’s announcement is significant for our three countries, but more importantly for the family and friends of those on board the aircraft. We again take this opportunity to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives and acknowledge the enormous loss felt by their loved ones.”said the statement.
Quote:

“despite every effort using the best science available, cutting edge technology, as well as modeling and advice from highly skilled professionals who are the best in their field, unfortunately, the search has not been able to locate the aircraft.”
Quote:

“the decision to suspend the underwater search has not been taken lightly nor without sadness”.
Quote:

“we remain hopeful that new information will come to light and that at some point in the future the aircraft will be located”.

There is a news that the search authorities have turned down FOI request (request for information) about the search operations stating that it could “cause damage to the international relations of the Commonwealth”.

How shall this be interpreted?

this is the normal 'whumf' given out when they wish to keep quiet. Remember India did the same umpteen number of times on the Netaji issue, and elsewhere. Let us wait and see what emerges. Modern media is far smarter and intrusive.

MH370 was on a routine flight from KL to Beijing, on 8 March 2014 with 239 people on board, when it disappeared. The disappearance was never properly re solved. However now Leading air safety experts have concluded that the captain of flight MH370 deliberately crashed the plane. They include the man who spent two years heading the search, who now says Captain Zaharie Amad Shah carefully planned a murder-suicide mission. It is time the mystery was laid to rest.

It is a possibility but one can never be too sure. To lull so many passengers and crew cutting the pressurization to 'manual' from 'auto' is the quickest way though the oxygen masks would deploy once the aircraft climbs above ~18,000 feet. The transponder going off the air and the B777 turning towards the Andaman sea ie the opposite direction are two unusual occurrences that could point towards mischief. This is a lot of trouble to go through over a suicide.

This article is an absolutely great read. Tragic event that still baffles the mind up to today.

Excellent article. Almost the best and most balanced I've read so far on this subject. The Atlantic is known for its great newsletters.

I am now reviving a long dormant thread, on a baffling mystery. I watched this rather long YouTube video lecture by the Royal Aeronautical Society, and thought it was interesting.

Richard Godfrey, a British aeronautical engineer believes that he has calculated the location where MH370 crashed. Will this be able to give much needed closure to all those affected by this tragedy?

MH370: Could missing Malaysian Airlines plane finally be found?

Quote:

Mr Godfrey said it was a "complicated exercise", but previously there was simply a lack of lateral thinking, across multiple disciplines, to bring this together.

"No one had the idea before to combine Inmarsat satellite data, with Boeing performance data, with Oceanographic floating debris drift data, with WSPR net data," he said.

Mr Godfrey said work with a team has been progressing for a year now, and "we've done quite a lot of testing of this new idea and we've came to the confidence to apply it to MH370".

The exact point determined by data calculations is around 33 degrees south and 95 degrees east in the Indian Ocean.

This is already known long back. I have seen the Air Crash Investigation episode on this a few years ago.
