The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Hello everyone!

The World Cup is just around the corner with 22 more days to go!

As ever, I am supporting Argentina, Germany, Nigeria and Netherlands - in that order.

What teams are you supporting and who do you think is going to win the World Cup this time?

Who has the broadcast rights in India? I mean which all channels will air the matches here? What are the Indian match timings? I am a fan of Italy, Argentina and Germany equally; as always. I just can't stand England, Brazil and France winning!

We just can't predict the winner these days but I've lost hope on Argentina; they just fail as a national team in the world cups now.

I guess it is Sony Six this time. All the matches are in these 3 slots - 01:30, 21:30, 00:30, 03:30 and 06:30. I've attached this very well made Excel document that is made by Excely - very nice to keep progress on the matches etc.

I can't stand England or Italy winning. Aargh, can't stand their national teams.

I prefer club level football to internationals. So, no permanent favorites.

I would be happy if Germany or Argentina wins it this time around.

re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

I'm Dutch, but I'm also one of the few that couldn't care less about football.
I have never seen a football match in my life

Usually the way I find out the Dutch national team was playing, was because all of sudden the office was empty, or very few cars on the road.

I'm not that much into sport. That is, watching it or reading about it, or talking about it. I have been very active in various sports and still get to do some, but watching it, endlessly discussing it, not my thing at all.

But I understand plenty of people do enjoy, so have fun!

We could of course discuss if a country such as Brazil should be spending all this money on something as trivial as football. Or whether countries should boycott the world cup for that very reason. I'm not sure, I can see arguments for both sides.

re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

I am sure no one else supports the team I support: Portugal!

I also like Germany.
Among the teams I hate most, Brazil is on the top. In fact, I don't like any South American team.

I had the pleasure of watching four matches of the last world cup in stadiums, and many more in parks. This time, I don't think I can even watch half the matches, because of time difference :-(

re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Looks like quite a few germany fans here. A departure from my brazil/argentina mad native Bengal :-)
I have been supporting Germany since 1990 and Bayern since 1998.

An incident I would love to recollect.
2006 - ARG-GER QF which I was watching in a football crazy suburb in Bengal. Finally, after a super contest Germany won and the whole para (colony) went silent. I screamed at the top of my lungs with joy. Someone came up and said - here geche toh (they lost na). I flashed a big smile and said I am a Germany supporter. Made me a social outcast in that neighbourhood for the rest of the world cup

re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Why is the World Cup not held every year considering today's fast world? Don't we want to have a champion every year? As in Formula1. And why was it actually held four yearly?

I never had enough of the world cup. I prefer this format over the club matches. May be this is the answer to my above question! "Familiarity breeds contempt"

I'm an Azzuri fan. I like the concept of a closed defence and striking on counter attacks. I agree though that this is not entertaining to watch as opposed to free slowing football.

I would like Argentina/Italy/Germany to win though. I did support Brazil once upon a time, but not anymore.

Germany all the way, with Brazil being a second choice.

Teams I cannot stand are Italy, France and England in that order.

Its Argentina and nothing else. I have been supporting them since I knew about football. Somehow like the way they play and of course they have the best home jersey. Talking of jersey, anyone has found a cheaper place to get your favourite teams tee?

I'm more into club football than internationals but planning to support Germany & Argentina this time just purely for the players they have.

Surprised that very few people are supporting Spain here. I think along with spain, only Germany has a strong enough team to make it all the way this time. Portugal might just be the surprise this time around.

Been a Brazil fan always, so this time also, I would love to see them win.

After Brazil, it is Argentina and Germany.
