Your longest walk?

For me, it is approximately 30-32 kilometres and it was 3 years ago. I walked from Gurgaon to Dwarka. it took me 5.30 hours. If I drive from Gurgaon to Dwarka - on a normal day it takes about 50 minutes. I had earlier walked from Gurgaon to Vasant Kunj. The distance was about 20 kilometres and this had taken me 3.30 hours. Yes, I did practice before embarking on this adventure!

If you notice, on each occasion I started from Gurgaon. Reason being - I wanted to know how much time does it take to walk home from work. Whenever I think about the commuting people did in the age of 'no motor' - be it China to India to Central Asia to India - I have always been fascinated. This was another reason I embarked on peak hour walking adventure from Gurgaon to Dwarka.

Note to Mods: please move it to the appropriate thread if this is not supposed to be here! thanks in advance.

re: Your longest walk?

Only twice above 10 kms.

1) I was in college back in 2004 at Bangalore. Majestic to Hoskerahalli (Pesit gate).
Distance- 11kms.
Reason- It was raining in the late evening and the auto drivers were asking ridiculous price and i didn't had enough to pay them. The buses were so full that people were literally hanging outside . So i preferred a walk in the rain and it took me 1.5 hours.

2) Mysore road Rv college to Hoskerahalli.
Distance- 10kms approximately.
Reason- Around 4am in the morning my friends Bajaj Pulsar refused to start & we had to push it too. Took around 1.5 to 2 hours.

re: Your longest walk?

Same as raksrules, have done the same distance for the same purpose, many times.

For those not aware of this i.e. out-of-Mumbai members, every Monday night hundreds, maybe even thousands Mumbai'ites walk to The Siddhivinayak Temple in Dadar, to reach there in the early hours of Tuesday (around 2.30-3 am) for the day's first Darshan.

On Tuesday, the Temple doors open earlier than usual. Faith is what makes people walk such distances, many doing the stint without a single break.

re: Your longest walk?

Maximum I have walked is about 42 kms which was covered in about a day. I was foolishly involved in the Gyaneshwari express derailment accident, and had to walk the distance to get to nearest halt/small station

re: Your longest walk?

The farthest I have walked is 32km from Hauz Khaz in Delhi to my rented flat in Noida in 2007. All for ... love
Had a tiff with my lady love and vowed to walk till she replied. She didn't - I walked!

P.S: It paid off. She is now my wife and travel companion

re: Your longest walk?

For one of our projects, We had to walk along trails inside core zones of a Tiger Reserve every day for 23 days, collecting samples along the way: in the heat of April!

Depending on the route assigned to you, it would be between 7kms and 18kms each day!

Was brutal the first 3-4 days but then our bodies got used to it! Best part is I lost 7 kilos that month!

Who walks in the city?

re: Your longest walk?

I like walking. I have done to & fro many times to my college from my home, approx 7 kms one side. Few days ago, I walked from the Railway station to my home, about 5 kms as the train reached at about 4 in the morning. It was a very pleasant early morning and a walk was indeed nice. Having nothing else than a light bagpack helped.
Compared to some members who posted here, these are very small distances.

re: Your longest walk?

Farthest I've walked in city is Koramangala Forum to Bilekahalli (where I lived then) which is about 6 km I guess. The longest would be the Tirupati uphill walk, once in 1997 and again in 2012, which is about 14 km I guess.

Re: Your longest walk?

~30 kms on a pilgrimage to Samet Shikhar.

The hilly terrain made it 10X more difficult than walking on a regular road. When we returned, Dad had lined up massages for all. God, a foot massage never felt so good

I enjoy walking, back on Europe I will typically do walks up to 25 - 30 kilometers. In my home country the Netherlands there are lots of nature trails. Well signposted. There are also several websites that offer free GPS hikes and you can get dedicated maps to find your own routes. I have a pair of special walking shoes and special walking socks. Very useful when you do more than 10km.

Re: Your longest walk?

~15 kms from NH4 (near Tegur) to Kulavalli (towards Dandeli forest) during the dead of the night to reach camping site. Got onto a truck from Dharwad and got down near Tegur at around 6 pm and walked in the forest to reach the camp. This was in the year 1987 during our school days.
