Great thread. Back in storage in the Netherlands I still have a huge Scalextric kit. See http://www.scalextric.com

My boys loved it and when I was their age all my friends had Scalextric kit. Every once in awhile we used to pool all our track, get one of the mums to give us a loft for a weekend and we would build huge tracks over 50-70 meters in length. We used to have real 24 hour races, with teams with different drivers, mechanics to keep fixing the cars etc. great fun.

James May did a brilliant episode on Scalextric in his toy story series: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00p1dn4

He builds a three mile Scalextric track. Have a look here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00p1dn4

Somewhere on YouTube there should be the full episode as well

Re: PICS: Slot Car Racing - Need for Speed

Wow! Brings back nostalgic memories. I have a STROMBEKER 1/32 scale set bought in the US in the sixties. Almost as close as you can get to competitive racing with a toy! Still have it. Still works. All essential spares (including tires) stocked. Just need a huge room to set it up again.
