Speaking of crumple zones.... i have heard that putting those huge black metal guards in the front totally messes up with the car's crumple area and can be very lethal in accidents as it delivers the shock from the accident directly to the cabin!!

The moment I get into my car, the first thing I do is wear the seatbelt. It just comes naturally and after that, many times I find myself disengaging it for adjusting the left mirror.
If a car dosen't have a seatbelt (like my dad's Fiat 1100), I have no choice, but, to go without one.

Speaking of mandatory seatbelts, do any of you remember those not-so-old Fords, where the seat belts would be attached to the door, and would come on as soon as the door would close?

Saturns and the early 4th Gen Accords had that feature too.

Safety (seat) belts all the time if one has it. Without safety belt a suplemental protective device (air bag) can also cause serious injury.
This can happen even at a speed of 50km/h with abrupt stop.

I wear seatbelts occassionally in city driving as our speed is not much on main roads due to severe traffic congestions ......
But whenever i hit highway i wear the seat belts compulsorily and tell my co passenger also to buckle up ....
( My wife hates to buckle up in the car ... )

seatbelts for me all the time
not only bcoz of the cops but its really useful
my friend banged his nose when he wasnt wearing a seatbelt and the car came to an abrupt stop
besides it saved me from a broken nose today when i was rear ended
anyway i was always educating my driver about them

I still remeber an incident when I was sitting in the front passenger seat and wasn't wearing a seatbelt. My friend took a left turn and was just accelerating when the guy in front suddenly breaked and this guy managed to hit the car even as he tried to stop. I was flung into the windshield and got a nasty bump on my forehead. Haven't forgotten to wear a seatbelt ever since

I wear the seat belt all the time when in motion. Feels like out of place if not buckled up.
