For good diecast models you will have to look abroad. (ebay etc)
You will probably get 1:43 scale cars. You will get things like Ambassador, Fiat etc.
You will also find newer cars that are sold abroad.
Cars like Tata, Maruti, etc you should get in India, though not of great detail. Don't know if all are available in diecast.
In Plastic you should get most cars for sure. Scale would be 1:36.

AFAIK, indian car models are not available in diecast, except few Dealer Editions.

Centy Toys of Delhi do make few plastic models of Indian Makes eg Tata Indica, Sumo, Mahindra Armada, Bolero, Scorpio etc.

The above posted scorpio is by centy toys only.

I'd started a thread "Pics/details of scale model cars of Indian cars" which was later merged in this thread and hence, the posts are now scattered everywhere in this thread.

If you'll search the web throroughly you'll find scale models of European versions of many cars available in India. If you want them in plastic, look no further than Centy Toys. Sunway makes some diecast models of Indian cars, but the detailing is pathetic.

@joeblack: awesome photography.

One small thing, the lens on the right side headlight seems to be missing.

Dailymotion - Dekalo - a Film & TV video

I found this video yesterday. This has been shot using scale model cars and stop gap animation. Sharing it for all scale model connoisseurs!
