From your & my post, I got an idea of comparing my GreenLights with my son's Hot Wheels - for the same models (not necessarily the same manufacture year). I was of the opinion that GreenLights would blow the Hot Wheels away, but castings for the past few years have been pretty decent. Stopped collecting Hot Wheels after childhood, as they went too much into fantasy models – I believe. Have started collecting again recently as they are making some realistic cars, and more importantly - they are priced at Rs 99, and discounted on some sites.

Am posting only one photo of each comparison. Have clicked more from all angles and open bonnet for the GreenLights. In case anyone is interested, I can post the Google photos link. Didn’t want to bombard the forum with too many images.

5) Ford Shelby GT 350 (HW) / 2010 GT 500 (GL)
6) Pontiac Firebird (1977) / White 1979 (GL)

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Got the new Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta 1/14 size from Rastar. Bought it just for the convertible option! And for a R/C car..the detailing is pretty good.
Also bought two 1/24 sized Ferrari 488 and Porsche 911 to give the Mercedes S class company.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Collecting Scale/Diecast models ( however you prefer calling them) is an extremely addictive hobby. I used to collect Hot Wheels during my childhood (12 years back) and had over 150 of them. But one fine day I discovered much to my horror that my mom had given them away since they had been well used by me. After that the love was still there but I didn't start collecting them again until recently.

Fresh out of college and with my modest first GET salary, I started my collection once again and below are their pictures. The most important decision every collector has to make is the scale? I chose to go with 1:24 for now since it helps my wallet.

Timeless wonders of engineering! - 1:24, The F40 is some chinese knockoff. Kyosho was way too costly.

The Scale Model Thread-3.jpg

'Murican muscle - 1:24, Ford GT, Ford Mustang GT, Dodge Viper ACR, Dodge Challenger

The Scale Model Thread-4.jpg

V8's

The Scale Model Thread-5.jpg

1969 Dodge Charger Daytona - Jada

The Scale Model Thread-6.jpg

The Brits - 1:24, Jaguar XKR-S and Lotus Evora.

The Scale Model Thread-7.jpg

'Ze Germans! - 1:24, BMW 330i, MB AMG GT, Porsche 918 spyder, MB 300SL, BMW X6.

The Scale Model Thread-8.jpg

Godzilla! - 1:24, Maisto assembly line.

Groupie

The Scale Model Thread-10.jpg

Parallely while shopping 1:24 stumbled across the lovely KiNSMART line of scale model which IMHO are nice for what they cost. Only problem is the scale they range from is 1:32 to 1:38. Most of them are 1:36. Other than those have a few 1:41 Welly and Maisto. Started collecting Hot Wheels again, have got more than 120 now. I collect only the production cars made by HW and not their Fantasy stuff. I also have a few multiples of the HWs that I love like the Lancia Stratos, Toyota Supra, Tesla Model S, Acura NSX and Ford Focus RS.

1:32 KiNSMART, Lotus Exige S, Alfa Romeo Spyder, Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i3.

The Scale Model Thread-11.jpg

1:36 and 1:38 KiNSMART, Lamborghini Huracan, BMW i8, Chevrolet Camaro Z28, Porsche 911 GT3, Ford GT, 2017 Ford GT, Audi R8, Lamborghini Veneno, Lamborghini Miura.

The Scale Model Thread-13.jpg

1:41 from Maisto and Welly, Aston Martin Vantage V12, Chevrolet Camaro SS, Lamborghini Diablo SV, Mini Cooper, MB C63 AMG.

The Scale Model Thread-12.jpg

Since I drive an Innova bought this, 1:41 Scale by Welly. Details are nothing to talk about. Off all the generations of the innova they had to choose the one with its mouth wide open.

The Scale Model Thread-14.jpg

For "Centy" reasons!

The Scale Model Thread-15.jpg

Tomica's - 1:64.

The Scale Model Thread-18.jpg

Siku - 1:54,Alfa Romeo 4C, Lamborghini Murcielago roadster, Bugatti Veyron.

The Scale Model Thread-17.jpg

Hot Wheels outlaws( out of packaging) - 1:64, The Ford GT, MB E class wagon and Chevrolet SSR are Matchbox. The Honda Civic Type R ( car with number 8) is 13 years old, had it since I was 10.

The Scale Model Thread-19.jpg

The rest of them, Hot Wheels - 1:64. Notable ones include Aston Martin DB5, Nissan Skyline R34, Datsun Fairlady 2000, Porsche 356A, Plymouth Superbird, McLaren P1, Lamborghini Urus, Pagani Huayra, Lamborghini Aventador J, Subaru Brat, BMW2002, Scooby Doo Mystery Van, KITT - Knight rider, Batmobile - Dark Knight and the Jetsons Space pod.

The Scale Model Thread-20.jpg

A Few of them - 1.

The Scale Model Thread-21.jpg

A Few of them - 2.

The Scale Model Thread-22.jpg

Also what is funny is the things you do to get the scale model you want. I got a few old out of production 1:24 from the US. The Jada fast and furious 1:55 build and collect was also acquired. Also got a few AutoWorld cars, these are absolutely epic. The level of detail is unbelievable for a 1:64.

Jada Fast and Furious 6 build and collect. 1:55 scale, Dodge Charger, Plymouth Roadrunner, Lykan Hypersport, Toyota Supra, Nissan Skyline R34, Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Camaro.

The Scale Model Thread-16.jpg

Auto World - 1:64, Chevy Kingswood estate, Ford Country Squire, Dodge Challenger, Pontiac Firebird, Ford Galaxie and Mercury Comet cyclone.

The Scale Model Thread-1.jpg

Chevy Callaway Corvette!

The Scale Model Thread-2.jpg

Where they rest!

The Scale Model Thread-27.jpg

Removing them all out to click pictures and putting them back was tiring.

Right now I'm planning to get my first 1:18, a Bugatti Chiron made by Bburago.

Very nice and varied collection. I also have a similar one, but few 1/24 scale models, as I collect smaller scale. Though have only recently bought two American muscle cars by Welly - 1970 Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang.

You can add RMZ city models also to your collection. They are mostly 1/32 scale and have good details. Vehicles with Matte paint job are specially nice.

I too had stopped HW for the same reason. But have restarted in the last few years since a lot of production models are being released.

Thank you, Mr. Narayan!! My childhood collection was mostly from Delhi (Khan Market and Janpath). If you are in Bangalore for the Aero India, we can meet. I loved your article on the Foxbat.

And here are some pics of the 1:24 1921 Rolls Royce made of copper, as the real car is.

Delicious. Simply delicious. Which are the shops at Janpath & Khan Market you have bought from. I would like to go sniff around. Regretfully I am not coming to the airshow this year.

AJ7, you have a fabulous collection. Where in Bangalore are you based. You seem to have many gems. By the way tomorrow morning the scale model guys are meeting at cubbon park for a meet.

Please PM me your number, let's speak and then meet.

All Bangalore guys how about meeting tomorrow morning at cubbon park.

I understand it's a bit late to call. But the plan itself got finalized today.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Not sure if this is the right thread to post my question. Nevertheless..

My 3.5 year-old son is going crazy about RE-Bullet that he keeps on looking for them when on the move. And, he is also adept in telling if it is a Classic, Electra or a Thunderbird. I wish you get him a RE scale-model, but am unable to get hold of one online.

Can you direct me to any such online portals? TIA!!

Cheers!
