As Rudraji said, near should be more blurred than whats further away.
To me it appears that you have done this correctly in the first picture - although the blur effect is quite extensive.

Assuming that you want to use photoshop to emulate a long exposure kind of blur - the most significant flaw in the image IMO is the fact that the car is blurred as well.

If you were following the car on a bike going at the same speed, the car would not be blurred at all. However, the reflection of the scenery on the car would be blurred.

The blur on the scenery should correspond to the speed between the camera and the scenery (speed the camera is travelling at).

The blur on the car should correspond to the relative speed between the car and the camera. (ie if both are going at 60km/h there will be 0 blur. If one is at 60 and the other is at 50, there will only be a blur relative to 10km/h difference of speed.)

ps - that "chimney" is a snorkel for the air intake (so the car can drive through water without sucking in water through the intake) - please see the gurkha threads on TBHP for more info.

To understand real blur effect, shoot real blur effect shots, without photoshop. That will you give you the best idea. And then you can apply to other images with photoshop.

For example, checkout the first few shots taken by Krishna in this travelogue.

Also look at panning shots taken by Krishna, he has some of the best on the forum.

Oldmodel, your Gurkha shots in the Gurkha TD thread are way better.

thanks Rehaan ! I wanted that grass twig in the frame - and also some portion of road. So ruled out the higher angle pic.

Yup, Stopped the car right in the middle of the road, it was early morning around 6:20, so there was hardly any traffic

I hope you do not park your car in the middle of the road for these shots. Its a really unsafe and irresponsible thing to do.
Someone will bang into you at full speed and then you will say "are you blind? couldnt you see my car was parked??" and he will say "are you stupid to park in the middle of the road??", and the arguement will be a tie.

Finding nice/interesting backdrops in suburban america is fairly hard!
Since you are in MI (detroit?) maybe go to some abandoned factories and use them as a backdrop? It might provide a nice contrast to the image.

Hi Rehaan,
Like i told u. This is a particular stretch of road thats totally free of traffic at the particular time i clicked this shot. I am not irresponsible to park it in the middle of a constantly traversed road. Also my brother keeps watch to see if in case any vehicle is coming. I am a responsible driver and an even more responsible citizen my friend.

(Yes i know, too many scratches, but it's a pretty old car you see)

I was expecting at least a OK if not better

I was'nt trying to compare to the others who i know are much better.
Was just wondering how the picture is on it's own - after forgetting about the others

In any case, brickbats are as welcome as compliments.

Even on its own, there is nothing special about this picture.
The background is uninspiring, the car is not shiny, the reflections are wrong.
Actually there is nothing about this picture which appeals.

It is just a partial car, the viewer doesn't feel anything.

For example, here is another partial car, there is no PP done on it, just look at it. If you feel nothing, then the photograph is a failure.
