Re: FIAT......fridge??

Just stumbled upon this. We had this Fridge when I was a kid. Gave us 23 years of service.

Unbelievable, yet seems true. I recall, during my childhood days Allwyn (I presume it’s spelt right) made scooters and refrigerators. Is there some connection between engines and compressors……eh?

Re: FIAT......fridge??

I showed to a couple of Italians at office and they all sound surprised such a thing even existed. Only one has seen at his grandparents' and he is in his mid-40s

I don't remember their scooters, but they did make refrigirators, wristwatches (Allwyn Trendy) and trucks(Allwyn Nissan Cabstar series).

More info on Hyderabad Allwyn here. They made Fridges, Trucks, Scooters, Watches and built bus coaches.

Coming back to the topic, isn't the former parent company FIAT Spa a conglomerate? Their group company Fiat-Ferroviaria also built train-sets Eurostar (not to be confused with the ones crossing English channel) based on pendolino and also Trams.

Yes , one are driven by electrical motor and other by fuel injection both have piston and crank shaft - so there is connection

1) Reciprocating Compressors:
The reciprocating compressors are one of the most widely used types of the refrigerating compressors. They have piston and cylinder arrangement like the automotive engine. The reciprocating motion of the piston due to external power compresses the refrigerant inside the cylinder.

Actually it did. Even the handle was like a car handle and it had some kind of locking mechanism unlike the newer fridges which are kept shut with magnetic doors. I wish I had a photo of the fridge. It had rounded edges. The coils were at the bottom unlike the back mounted external coils of the Kelvinators, Allwyns and Godrej's of those days. The compressor was "Tecumseh".
