Asian Car Sales - India #3, China #1

India has officially overtaken Korea to become Asia's #3 car market (in volume) while China has overtaken Japan.

However, see how China was once level with us in sales and how they've taken off in the last 3-4 years:

Does anyone have model-wise sales per month? We need some hard stats here and Shri Murad Ali Baig seems to have wisened up to us referring to his Auto News Bulletin. Is there any probability of us subscribing to his reports?

Steer, 04 - 05 (Apr-Mar) domestic sales in India was .98 million. 05 - 06 was 1.08 million. These include UVs also. This year I think we will touch about 1.25 million this FY. Let's see how it goes.

If Maruti decides to sell a futher 'stripped' down variant of its 800 in the rural markets, we might see a significant jump in future numbers. Add to that the Tata small car due in 2008.

Shall try and put in monthly sales of specific models if required.

Its interesting to notice that till the dusk of last century Indian automotive Industry wasnt lagging far behind Chinese ..... We need to learn a thing or 2 about them . Another aspect of seeing is thank God traffic didnt explode coz I couldnt imagine a busier traffic in our alrady congested metros.
