Mamma mia - I'm sure I'll follow this thread closely. Am a wannabe guitarist. Actually have been for quite a while

Very difficult to choose 1 name and 1 solo.

1. Knopfler, Page, Blackmore, Gilmour
2a. Hotel California - Eagles (original - not the subsequent unplugged version)
2b. Wasted Sunsets - Deep Purple
2c. Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
2d. Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
2e. Wish you were here - Pink Floyd

and lots and lots more ... which I am sure I will remember once the 20 minute window to edit this post is over !!

This is a hard one...

David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - Comfortably Numb, Wish you were here, Another Brick, Marooned...hell there's no end to this one.

Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) - Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven, Rock n Roll, Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, Dazed and confused...ok too many here too.

Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits/Solo) - Sultans of swing, Money for nothing, On every Street, Calling Elvis, Coming Home...

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile, All Along the Watchtower, Little Wing, Red House...

The Edge (U2) - Ok he doesn't really do solos, but his influence can't be denied - Bullet the Blue Sky, Where the Streets have no name, Unforgettable fire, Discotheque, etc etc

Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple) - Highway Star, Space Truckin, Burn, My Woman from Tokyo, Smoke on the Water

Steve Morse (Deep Purple) - Almost the entire Purpendicular album and the crazy Banglore concert a few years ago.

Brian May (Queen - incredible underrated) - Stone cold crazy, Crazy little thing, Mustafa, Bohemian Rhapsody, We will rock you.

Eric Clapton (Cream/Solo) - White Room, Strange Brew, Tears in Heaven, Layla (both versions)

Slash (Guns N Roses) - Sweet Child O Mine, November Rain, Welcome to the jungle, Estranged, Don't cry

Dave Murray & Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) - Fear of the Dark, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Wasted Years...loads more

KK Downing and Glen Tipton (Judas Priest) - Painkiller (just for this one song they get on my list), Beyond the realms of death, Turbo Lover

Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave): Bulls on Parade, Bombtrack, Wake Up, Guerilla Radio, Show me how to live, Like a stone, Cochise.

Dimebag Darrell (Pantera): Cemetry Gates, Mouth for war, Walk, Fcuking Hostile, I'm broken, Shedding Skin

Will think of more later...

Okay, Bhpians. I need some help. I'm buying my first electric guitar and I've narrowed down to these two.

Ibanez GRG170DX

Ibanez JS100

Please help??

I'll be playing mostly metal like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer but there'll also be the ocassionally the classic rock like Scorpions, Pink Floyd and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

How long since you've been playing guitar, dude?

Good chioce anyway, since Ibanez guitars have a good metal tone, which will be good for the bands you wanna cover.

The GRG170 has got 24 frets, while the JS has 22 frets. The JS though, has smaller frets, so that's gonna be more comfy playing leads. So it depends on what you want to play (rhythms or lead).

Either way, dont think there is gonna be much of a difference in feel. You could go in for either of them....

Do let us know when you buy one....Cheers.

I'd go with the Ibanez. I feel it's more versatile.

My all time favourite is still the Strat.

So who all are in bands here? I used to have one a long time ago.
