Apparently yes. But nothing is clear as of now. I'm also waiting for it to take effect.

Actually I am not a Jio user. My wife was, but she ported out last month so I wasn't sure how this IUC works. My colleague is on Jio and sits in the next cubicle. I asked him to give me an (offnet) call and there was no issue in connecting. He hasn't gotten any top up done.
Reading the second line of the second point posted in the shot above, I believe that it comes into effect only after a new recharge.

If TRAI stands by its earlier decision of scrapping IUC charges from 1st Jan 2020, it wouldn't be a big deal for managing this for 3 months. And for every 10 rupee recharge, users get 1 GB of data. Jio indeed seems to be doing well in compensating for these charges.

This article gives a clear understanding of why Jio decided to charge its users. Apparently most of the other network users tend to give missed calls to Jio users and Jio ended up being the one to pay IUC rather than to receive it.

TV will be TV - regular Cable TV - there is no Jio Magic here and moreover you need a separate LCO (Local Cable Operator) Connection as well...

Good to hear this change in strategy just 2 months since the launch. But I am not seeing availability of JioFiber yet where I stay in Bangalore - so its a wait and watch.

Also so far whoever has got it keep saying they are getting only 40 mbps due to the router limitations.

Got Jio STB for my parents home today. There is a coax input on the box and a menu option of live TV. Selecting live TV throws a message to contact local cable operator.

Other than this usual apps like JioTV, hotstar can be used right away.

Was pleasantly surprised by setup process- no need to sign in. STB detect network automatically once WiFi is connected and auto sign in.

All these are already supported on JioPhone and also on JioPhone 2.

Yes I was aware of that link, but I want to confirm if the usage in real life is as seamless as a regular android device. Should have been clearer in my question, sorry.

Yes. All apps are supported. Facebook and YouTube runs through browser support but with a dedicated app. Whatsapp works very well but has limitations on the attachment size (8 mb max as per my knowledge)and no audio/video calling feature.

My friends from Jio has specifically mentioned to stay away from Jio phone 2 as being riddled with bugs. Though jio phone 1 and 2 has similar software, but 1 is any day better. Though it’s out of stock currently.

The requirement is for an 80 year old lady who has just learned how to use whatsapp, FB and youtube. She wanted to upgrade her 3G phone to 4G and hence was looking at affordable options. She does use whatsapp calling so we will not go for this option.
