Can someone suggest me a good place to donate blood? I live in Delhi and it will be great if it is near Dwarka.
Anyways, I have B+ blood group. Anyone can contact me if they require blood.

In these major cities, aren't there blood banks available?
I had a potential need earlier this year for a family member and I went to nearest blood bank (BSES hospital Andheri for folks in western suburbs) with the patient's blood profile (the hospital will provide this).

All you need to do is reserve blood for the needed profile at a minimal cost of Rs. 400 for the next 24 hours. For extra 24 hours, there's another Rs. 400. Do this a couple of hours before surgery or other procedures, so whenever the need arises, a person can be waiting at the blood bank to deliver the blood at a moment's notice.

Thankfully, my family didn't need the blood eventually.

In time of need, the need / request takes priority. I dont think it is appropriate to tell the requestor at that moment, about reserving blood.

platelets extraction can't happen from stored blood IIRC and these days with dengue on rampage its even more difficult to get donors for groups like B+.

I have seen 3 genuine requests in last month alone!

It is faster to get blood from a blood bank than from a donor, as a lot of tests need to be done on the donor and their medical history. So I don't understand your point, unless of course the bank is out of that particular blood group.

For the purpose of information not debate I put forward following points, this might have been discussed earlier but might be useful to refresh them.

There are multiple components which are derived/segregated from blood. Most commonly used/prepared ones are PRBC, Platelet, Plasma, Clotting factors respectively in the order of requirement.

PRBC - Packed Red blood cells are the most commonly used product and commonly referred to as blood transfusion. Used for anemia, blood loss etc., Blood grouping is based on these cells. Can be stored upto 3 months.,

Platelets - Used for bleeding disorders, low platelet count in dengue etc., Usually blood grouping and typing not required. Can be stored for 5 days but usually no use after 3 days. Requires special agitators to preserve efficacy.

Fresh Frozen Plasma - Used in bleeding disorders and low protein conditions. Can be stored for a very long time depends on the blood bank.

Blood products cannot be sold commercially and most blood banks including the ones in corporate hospitals function on non-profit basis(or just a small profit for sustenance). Donating blood for money is also banned in India, hence it is entirely volunteer driven.

In a country like India where even wearing helmet for one's own safety is not voluntary, its difficult to get donor whenever the need arises. So the blood bank usually demand a replacement donor to be arranged by the recipient's family so there would be blood products available for the next recipient.
