Brief stay at Golden Temple, Amritsar!!

Was at Amritsar earlier this month, a very short stay, but felt awesome as i was visiting Punjab after almost a decade.
The Gurudwara was a lot more beautiful than the faint memories i had of it, and gave me that whole nice spiritual feeling once i was around.
Did visit the Vagha border as well, missed a bit of the march though. This is abut 25-30 kms outside the main city.

A few pics i wanted to share:

first sight of the gurudwara after a whole decade

daytime view of the gurudwara

another daytime view

view from one of the entraces

a local drink in punjab, sweet soda kinda think, popularly known as bunte, pronounced as bunt followed by the alphabet 'a'. note the marble to the top.

and the marble then drops to the center of the bottle to let the drink out

will continue the thread in a while.

nice pics..

BTW Banta drink is very popular in Delhi. Now a days they mix it with Lemon and rock salt to make the so called "Lemon Soda" drink which is quite a hit during summers.
Back in our school days we used to swear by Banta. Even today, you will see many school children enjoying this cheap and refreshing drink.

The bad part is, there is a question mark on the hygiene of the manufacturing units these drinks comes from.

i was in delhi for just little over two days, so couldn't manage anything else except the vagha border as we had a path kept at the gurudwara. Infact this trip was done in less than four days, i was so hoping i could have paid a visit to the mountains as well.

Hi Manson

Nice pics there. I know what a feeling it is to be back home after a long time.

And what a super-drop Jeep! Obviously is of no use as a 4WD, but it sure looks great.

Down south they call it 'Goli soda' because of that glass marble stopper.

manson did you get to eat the famouse Amritsari Kulche cholle and Amritsari macchi.
These two things you can get only in Amritsar. Lot of resturants claim to serve these in Delhi too, but are poor fakes as compared to what you get in the bylanes of Amritsar.
Nice pics! Its been more than a year since I visited Amritsar, plan to go soon!

yeah, even a nine hours drive as a passenger with huge farms on either side seemed interesting and the only time of the drive i got bored was when we entered delhi and had to crawl through the traffic.

Kulche chole were taken to more than a couple of times, no fish though as i was there for an Akhand Path, so no non-veg.

Btw, forgot to mention the stop we had at Haveli, a restaurant with strong punjabi ambience, a well; yep real one, real real good folk music, a trucky body to the interiors, which i cannot find the snaps of :(
