It will be better to send the car to company garage.

You shouldn't have any problems if its not a big accident and theres no body damage.

You can honestly tell the insurance agent that you were not able to take down the bus number due to the chaos and mindset at that point.

Also sometimes you do need a police FIR. You need to give the car at the garage then inform your insurance company of the accident they will send a surveyor down to the garage and inspect the car. After that the garage or the surveyor will inform you of the amount the insurance will cover and the details of the work.

There is no complication at all in this matter. Once I did it with a local garage (body work specialist). I didn’t want to claim insurance, but the estimate made me think twice and the garage person himself suggested me to go for the insurance claim. I got the claim form from the insurance office, filled it up with the help of the garage guy and submitted the same at the insurance office. The vehicle has to be in the garage before that. Important thing: You are not supposed to use the vehicle after the accident. Assumption is that you go straight to the garage within 24 hrs and keep it there and complete the form submission formality. The date and time of the accident should be put accordingly. Inspection will happen within a day, garage people will start work only after that. Make sure you go to a known garage. If the estimate and the explanation to the insurance people are not made properly, they’ll approve only a part of the estimate. (Normally they quote the estimate high to make sure that the approved amount will sufficient to complete the job) Finally the amount will go directly to the garage guy if you submit authentication for the same. Better you have this explained by a good garage guy.
I sugget you do the job with a body work specialist, not with TATA guys.

Sometimes if the claim is large and the insurance company wants to trouble you they might ask you for an affidavit stating that there was no third party injury. Otherwise everything should be normal.
Take the car to the authorised (btw, what car ? Can you post pics?) workshop. They'll give you a claim form to fill and you will have to provide them with the original RC and Driver's license. Also they'll ask you to give in detail the cause of accident. The surveyor will come, assess the damage & prepare the estimate. Unless there is some technical issue, work should start in 24 hrs. When the car is ready, you pay your part (depreciation, minimum clause etc) and remaining is paid by insurance company. Tata Aig is known for scr..... customers so let us know , if you face any problem.
Remember,
Look for a workshop that has a cashless tie up with TATA AIG.
Don't play overly nice to the insurance company. You paid the premium and now they pay the damages.
Don't give anything more than the above or any upfront cash.
If the workshop does'nt give you cashless, despite tie-up, probe further. Don't relent..
Keep us posted,
Goodluck, dMH
