agree with you rippergeo, sex, violence or comedy, it doesn't matter what genre it belongs to, as long as the movie is good to watch...

jim carrey in a serious role, IMO he did well. slightly mushy movie.

The Prestige
is very good for a single watch. Once you lose the twist, it becomes a regular good movie.

Eternal Sunshine... is one of my favourites too. Among the few romantic movies I think are really good.

On the subject, these are some of my fave romantic movies:
1) Before Sunset
2) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
3) The Notebook
4) All the real girls
5) Lost in Translation

As you can see Titanic is NOT in the list.

I was actually about to raise the subject of good movies with a bit (ok, a lot) of skin and s3x. Here are a few I've enjoyed a lot (for the quality of the movie and not the skin, heh heh). These are not in any particular order, and these are the ones that spring immediately to mind.

1) Y tu mama tambien (if you can see beyond the sex, you'll see a great movie about relationships, about a great road trip, about just letting go, and a lot about life).

2) Malena (Monica Belucchi floors you without saying a word. This movie proves she can really act. The movie is seen mostly through the eyes and experiences of a buy who fantasizes about her. Before a few minutes are up, the viewer becomes that boy, and the narrator (the boy) and the viewer become so much a single entity, it is uncanny. And the shots of the Italian town are so immersive and beautiful they help place you right there, experiencing what the narrator experiences.)

3) The Dreamers (I really don't know what exactly I liked about this movie. Yes, Eva Green parading naked did help a lot, but the movie itself is quite enjoyable. YMMV)

4) Stealing Beauty. (Again, I can't put my finger on what exactly I liked about this movie. The beautiful Italian landscape is definitely part of it. So are the well-built characters. Not too much skin/s3x here, but the implication is always there. I generally don't like Liv Tyler, but she was just right in this movie).

you will get vidheyan, elipathayam etc from mallutorrents.com. not sure if this has subtitles though
but its an invite only site

You should look out for Vidheyan (The Servile) - nice movie, based on a Kannada novel (if I am right).
Vidheyan is based on a malayalam novel by Zacharia

I would guess that this should be part of the Moser-Baer collection of Mallu movies, and available at most stores (Landmark etc), but not sure of the sub-title part.
Will check and let you know - I need to get one for my collection myself.

Thanks for the suggestions, supremeBaleno and rajesh1868. I think I'll ask my pal in the US to explore the mallutorrents option, though ideally I'd have liked to buy the genuine stuff.

Surprise, is Kamal Haasan's Sathya available on DVD/VCD too? (That's the one with Amala in it, right?)

My most favourite movie since I was a kid happens to be this one:

Ondanondu Kaladalli (1978)

This is my all time favourite, since 1978 till today.

Hotel Rwanda : This is Schindler's List revisited, with a stellar performance by Don Cheadle (same guy who plays detective in Crash). This is the true story of a hotel manager, Paul, who does whatever it takes to ensure safety of more than 1000 refugees. Its a movie that can depress you and yet leave you with a ray of hope.

This is Spinal Tap: The greatest ever spoof on rock and roll. Must watch for all rock fans.

The Big Lebowski: I dont know what it is about this movie, but its super funny.
