Just saw this thread.
I'm a big Kurosawa fan, so my list would consist of all his films.
Then there would be films like Jaane bhi do Yaaron etc made by FTII geniuses of that era
Of course, love a few Tarantino films like Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction
Add a dash of Akki Karismaki films (I think that's how you spell his name)
And a little bit of modern stuff like Bladerunner and you have a recipe for great times.

Watched these during the weekend

Summer Interlude - Ingmar Bergman
Wild Strawberries - Ingmar Bergman
Seven Samurais - Akira Kurosawa (2nd time)

This is the first time I watched a Bergman man. Man, how could he have created such films in that era. The films are way ahead of their times. While Kurosawa was masterclass in his own way, I really do not know how to describe Bergman. All I can say is I've become his fan for life.

Pulp Fiction (second time)- Awesome movie
Serendipity - very good movie
Dil Chahta Hai (I do not know how many times I watched this) - my fav
Love Aaj kal - Average, could have made it better

Bergman was a genius. Specially the way he created dream sequences. The scene in Wild Strawberries where the doctor dreams that he is appearing for a test is one testimony to his brilliance.

See if you can get Bergman's Cries and Whispers. There will not be an iota of doubt left that he was the best.

Yup. That's why I mentioned how could he have captured such imagination in that era. It was awesome.

Well, I'm planning to order all of his collection

P.S - The scenes between Marie and the Joker in Summer Interlude was also something I liked. Not many people would have thought about it.

Last weekend I wathced Ying Xiong (Chinese with English Subtitles) directed by Zhang Yimou. The movie is based on an ancient Chinese legend (history?) of a nameless warrior killing three assassins who plotted to kill the king. The accounts of the killings given by the warrior to the king reminds one of Roshomon. The lead role is by Jet Li and you get to see a lot of gravity defying action. The cinematography is top notch. With some suspension of disbelief this movie is worth a watch.

The movie is being marketed as "The Hero" starring Jet Li. It dioes have some stunning cinematography , the highlights being the battle over the lake and the fight in the autumn forest.

Cries and Whispers - Ingmar Bergmann

Nothing prepares you for the movie. No words can describe it. It is based on Ingmar's imagination when he spent isolated days after a painful break-up. The story is as live and breathtaking as it can get. The acting and performances are something which I think I'll never come across atleast for a long time. Shudders pass through you on watching some of the scenes.

A very beautiful movie!
