There's no easy solution, and I reread my post and could possibly have ended it on a more positive note.

Niebuhr said it well: 'Man's capacity for justice makes democracy possible, but man's inclination to injustice makes democracy necessary'.

Unlikely any foreign bank would have lent and even then marginal amounts . Gems and Jewelry is seen as a high risk segment especially from AML perspective.

While it may be blindingly obvious to us in India that scammers like Mallya and Chordia are as guilty as possible and deserve jail time, the courts of law operate quite differently. Reading an article about the progress of the case makes me wonder if it's simple incompetence or political connections that are messing up the case and will surely make it impossible to bring these guys to justice.

https://thewire.in/business/final-he...ushed-to-april

"The case now hinges on two main issues – conspiracy charges that establish Mallya intended to commit fraud and witness testimonies ascribing to this. On both these fronts, the court has found prosecution’s claims lacking."

"In January, Montgomery raised the issue of “identical” witness testimonies, a point she raised once again in the hearing on March 16. “Even the spelling errors are the same!” she told the court. India’s case is heavily based on these witness statements and if Montgomery can succeed to convince the judge that they should be inadmissible, it would be a huge blow to the prosecution."

I really don't see how increased participation in voting or voting for one party or the other will make any difference to monumental incompetence or monumental political corruption like this. These rich criminals are going to live the rest of their lives happily and comfortably abroad. Irrespective of which government is in power here.

Cheers!
It took a journalist to find the man and a bank clerk to get him arrested. Much more than both the Indian and UK governments could manage.

Vijay Mallya loses extradition case appeal in UK's High Court.

Excerpts....
Quote:
The high court of England and Wales on Monday dismissed controversial businessman Vijay Mallya’s appeal against his extradition to India, marking another advanced stage in the case that began with his arrival in the UK in March 2016 and arrest in April 2017.

Mallya, 64, is wanted in India to face charges of financial offences amounting to Rs 9,000 crore borrowed by his Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) from several Indian banks. The case will now go to home secretary Priti Patel for a final decision on his extradition.
