Thank you for sharing. His will power and sheer perseverance to overcome the physical & verbal challenges is an inspiration, beyond belief, for us all.

Let us sincerely hope his doomsday predictions will never come true, but we know he can't be wrong.

RIP Dr. Hawking.

RIP, Stephen Hawking.

His book A Brief History of Time was what kept my interest in science alive, even after schooling did its best to make science boring.

A sad news indeed.
What a coincidence that today is Pi day and Albert Einstein's Birthday too!

Rest in peace Sir!

He was world's favorite scientist.

The Guardian has quite a few brilliant articles in their home page on him today.

A brief history of Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time

And he has made some really cool portrayals of himself in popular media which will be fondly remembered.

Stephen Hawking in popular culture

He really liked to have fun!

Rest in peace for one of the most strong willed. Thanks for making science more popular. Even though I haven’t properly understood most of what he wrote, it did leave a big mark on helping me becoming The Rationalist. Hope human kind continues their search and find out the whole truth about the universe, it’s vastness and it’s beginning.

Not thinking about the end of universe, because deep inside me I wish it never ends. I have stopped thinking about the universe and associated things, as many times I thought it was getting out of hand and too much for my brain.

re: RIP, Stephen Hawking

My grandfather was a very religious man, visiting the local temple on a daily basis come what may! He passed away on a date of Ganga-Dussehra in 2015, which everyone else claimed was the most auspicious day to pass away as it meant the person has lived a pious life and most probably going to attain moksha.

Stephen Hawking, braved through the years, with an infectious smile and with such positive outlook. His books and quotes just add to his profound knowledge and deep respect/belief for humanity. Incidentally, he too passed away on Pi-day, an auspicious day in the world of science.

Co-incidence? I hope not.

Keep the humour alive up there, Dr. Stephan Hawking.

re: RIP, Stephen Hawking

The famous witty talk show host, John Oliver, once interviewed Stephen Hawking and out of the blue, this happened:
Oliver: “You’ve stated that you believe there could be an infinite number of parallel universes. Does that mean that there is a universe out there where I am smarter than you?”
Hawking: “Yes, and also a universe where you’re funny.”

This showed me that Hawking's intellect was razor-sharp even in humour. Hundreds of memes have been made based on this conversation where Oliver got burnt.

Hawking also showed me the true meaning of perseverance. For someone who was told that he has less than 2 years left to live, he is the epitome of perseverance, charging through life for half a century more.

I'm happy he passed away in his sleep, dying a peaceful death.

R.I.P

re: RIP, Stephen Hawking

A unique example in a truly esoteric field - an astrophysicist / cosmologist with only his mind to fall back on, and the voice synthesizer being his one means of communicating with the world outside his mind.

One of his quotes on his Wikipedia page gives an insight into this extra-ordinary mind - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge".

“Not since Albert Einstein has a scientist so captured the public imagination and endeared himself to tens of millions of people around the world,” Michio Kaku, a professor of theoretical physics at the City University of New York, said in an interview. This just conveys a tip to the vast universe, which was his mind.

This was one of his last interviews.
