There's currently an offer on Citi: 100% cashback for 6 months on HotStar Premium (199/month).

Re: How do you watch TV?

Is Sonyliv worth subscribing for the non-sports content? How does it compare with Hotstar & Prime?

Nah! Sony LIV is only worth for cricket streaming, even there is quite a bit of buffering at times. Prime and Hotstar are way ahead in terms of content. Am not sure how Sony LIV would deal with big ticket matches though.

I am having a VideoCon South Platinum HD package costing around 8K INR/year and my Brother is having Airtel South package costing 6K/year. Of course the charges seem to be only going upwards.

Based on our current research we are considering the following options.
1. Amazon Fire with Kodi installed (Jio TV can also be installed)
2. Android TV like, Nvidia Shield (a bit expensive)
An Update:
Dec'18 my Videocon DTH yearly subscription was due for renewal and I ditched them this time. I have been experimenting with Amazon FireTV 4K bought some 8 months back from US and we were getting used to it with our second TV in bedroom. We were watching Prime, Hotstar, Netflix. Additionally we installed JioTV App and Kodi App. Slowly we realised that the contents available in these mediums are sufficient for our viewership and I got a second Amazon FireTV (latest fireTV cube from US) this time, for the main TV. Anyways our internet was going good with 100 MBPS line and 400 GB/month seems to be sufficient for our usage (but in this month, I almost touched 90% usage).

Netflix has amazing quality content. Prime and Hotstar covers any gap for us. JioTV has 499 channels, incl HD - and still helps in case you want to watch some regular TV channels. Kodi is just to explore any additional ones, so far very minimal.

FireTV cube comes with Alexa experience and can also control your other devices and watching with your voice commands.

So far, happy with this option and hope that 2019 onward we leave past a legacy of watching TV, and continue this current option for sometime ahead at least.

cheers,

Re: How do you watch TV?

I have a query regarding Hotstar.

One can add content to a watchlist but where does one access it?

Edit. I figured it!

Everytime you close and reopen the app, your watchlist is wiped clean, which kind of defeats its purpose, but Hotstar!

After the Trai ruling has your DTH bills increased or decreased? I have a multi tv connection from DishTv and the rates have increased by almost Rs 150 per month and still missing a few channels.

Re: How do you watch TV?

Hi guys,

Does it make sense buying an Amazon Fire TV Stick (or any Smart TV boxes), considering the entry of Jio Gigafiber?

I have Rs.1000/- voucher which expires on 31st August.

Any suggestions on the same would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Re: How do you watch TV?

Has anyone checked out the airtel Xstream box? From their website I know that it is an android set top box (running on 9 Pie). Does it require airtel subscription to run?
