Re: The Football World Cup Thread - Russia, 2018

What a goal by Japan. They don't look fazed by the opposition. I hope they go on to win.

And before the timer for my edit option fades out, they score again. Spectacular goal!

And we're back to 2 - 2. Lucky goals by Vertoegnenh(?) and Sideshow Bob.

This trend of ball possession follows. So far the Japan vs Belgium match, Belgium has most of the ball possession, but it was Japan that scored twice. Seems like Belgium is the next team to go out!

EDIT: The game is reset 2:2 as of now!

Re: The Football World Cup Thread - Russia, 2018

Horrific defending for both goals. Vertonghen(?) had the run covered on the first but still went for the do-or-die interception. For the second, Inui turned one defender inside out while Kompany stood watching on the edge of the box.

Another upset on the cards!

Edit: Hang on a second, Vertonghen with a header only he can tell whether it was intended for goal or just keeping ball in play.

Game on!!

Edit 2: 2-2. Game definitely on!!!

My favourite half of football this World Cup. Anyone doubting whether Belgium had the bottle to go with their talent, well there you have it, the answer couldn't be any clearer.

Take a bow Japan, flying the Asian flag high. Gave it all, and looked menacing right until the corner from where the winner played out.

Exactly, this is what I have been saying when I watched their first match in this World cup! I say it again - It is with most probability going to be a France vs Belgium finals with Belgium lifting the cup!

For me, easily the best match of the tournament. Japan played their heart out! Amazing goals. But for Belgium to not lose hope and to still go on to win? And that counter for the last goal - great. Great stuff.

Yes, probably the best match of this tournament so far. What a come-back by Belgium. And it was good to see an asian country fighting hard against the tournament favorite before going down.

Got that bit wrong.

It was Kagawa who wrong-footed a defender, Inui ran into the resulting space that neither Kompany nor De Bruyne (esp. him) did anything to close down. That shot though, replay in super-slow motion and not a single rotation on the ball. Inui couldn't have caught it sweeter if the ball was made of pure sugar!

Unfortunately the best 4 teams remaining in the tournament is in the same half - Uruguay, France, Brazil and Belgium.

Neymar's game is brilliant but his drama is pathetic. He is a big time laughing stock in football world today. Just search for the memes on twitter and you can see!

unbecoming of a great player.

And some Messi haters use this as a troll to counter the Neymar roll.

Re: The Football World Cup Thread - Russia, 2018

Wanted Argentina to win- they lost.
Wanted Portugal to win- they lost.
Wanted Spain to win- they lost.
Now I wanted Belgium to win and when Japan did those 2 quick goals my wife told me stop supporting teams you like cos they all lose
But, what a comeback. Heartbreaking for Japan but they did their country proud. Great game. This world cup has been a lot closer and exciting than the previous.

Agree, but yesterday's foul outside the line was intentional by Mexican player. That was sure shot yellow card for Mexican player, but he escaped.

Totally. He seems to keep rolling half the time. Just get up and move on man.

That is what I liked about the Japan vs Belgium match. Fluid play all around with minimum fouls. Both the teams can be proud of the display.

Somehow Brazil team does not have the flair that they had previously.
