Local dealers rarely stock hybrid models, in the lesser known brands that they have.

If you are going to do just city rides, hybrids are better suited.

Decathlon is open since May with restricted timings as applicable.

A descent suspension fork will cost 5K by itself!

At 11k stick to as simple a bike as possible. The suspension on cheap bikes is of no use. Infact it has the risk of bottoming out far too easily and then rebound too quickly.
Good suspension forks have adjustments for lockout/reboud/preload etc.
At this price stick to a single speed (i.e no gears) and rigid fork bikes.
This will make the bike far more reliable. You will spend more time cycling than fixing a problem every other day.

Agree.
I started with a cheap bike, got an an accident due to mechanical issue.
Bought simple Btwin Rock Rider, used it for an year or so and then upgraded to Merida Speeder 100.
I am looking to upgrade again

Thanks. My budget is around 15-20k. I mentioned it in my original post. I get some 27k worth of reimbursement from my company for fitness reimbursement and I've spent some of it. I mentioned that 11k bicycle because I came across it.

From all of the comments here, I'm leaning towards Montra Trance Pro at ~19k. I'll also check out Rockrider at Decathlon.

That's so great, reimbursement for fitness equipment. If you don't mind me asking, which company do you work for. I can ask our HR and finance team to speak to someone from your company to understand how this works. Maybe I can get my company to reimburse some to us too .

Bicycle sales have zommed in the last 3 months. Shipments were also not coming at the usual pace. Transport links are back online now and in a couple of weeks the situation will improve.

Another option is to check for pre owned cycles

Thanks. Not looking for a pre-owned bicycle because I won't get reimbursement for it.

Could you please let me know if Montra deliver bikes out of Pune? I am entering Pincode that is not of Pune and the website simply says, it cannot be delivered to the entered Pincode. Also, somehow, I am not able to view list of dealers mentioned here:

https://montra.in/store-locator/

help, please.

Check the website of Track N Trail, the bicycle store chain of TI cycles (parent of Montra), for dealer addresses.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Hey Folks,

I am completely new to the world of cycling. Last cycle I owned was an Atlas Ranger back in mid nineties. Now I plan to gift my wife a bicycle as she seems to have developed an interest towards it.

But I have no clue what to look for. Suddenly there seems to be a whole gamut of bicycle types - Road bikes, terrain bikes, hybrid bikes and what not.

Is there any resource that I can refer to get an introduction of these and what is it that I should be looking for when buying a bicycle?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Yes. The dealer listing isn't working here either.

Here is a link to few basics: https://www.bikeradar.com/advice/buy...des/best-bike/

Where does she plan to ride the bicycle? In and around city roads - A hybrid will be a good choice.

There are a couple of sites - road.cc, bikeradar.com, cyclingweekly.com
You'll find plenty of information on bikes, perhaps too much to confuse you.

I would suggest look at the bikeradar forums for information.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Hey Folks,

Need an advise, I have an Montra Madrock. Have been facing issues with the brakes.
I could feel the brakes bite but bicycle doesn't stop at all.
Parts replaced till now :
Front and rear brake pads replaced
Front caliper replaced
Rear cable replaced

Every time I visit track and trail they clean the brake pads and disks.
Brakes works for few kms again its back to square one.
For info : Bicycle is never washed, parked inside.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Completed my first 50k day before yesterday. Mix of good roads, hills, and some farm trails. Great ride! Can't wait for the next one later this week. ignore the calorie count, it's inaccurate.

The wheel rim face where the brake shoes press might be polished. If this is the case then you'll need to make it rough again with emery sheet.
