The reason for drivetrain mods is to expand the range, 50T is pure road bike territory, but 30T on low end might make climbing tough IMO.

Hence thinking about 48T, with lowest at 28T at front.
At rear current setup is 28-14T which is quite narrow.Would try to look for 34-11 atleast or a 36-11 if its compatible.

Shifter and rear derailleurs would upgrade from Tourney to Acera.
If all of above falls under 6-7k, i may think about it.( Since as you said its not bang for buck and the difference may not be much )
I value speed and handling over plushness so no suspension ever for me.

Costs I calculated for my ACT (nothing Shimano currently available so simply daydreaming):

50-39-30 Altus road crank Rs 3500 (Cyclop) ... current is a fast road biased 48-38-28. The new one will be faster!

Rear Derailleur Altus Rs 2000 (current is a Tourney ... rugged, but has play, and the Altus is supposed to give better clicks with shorter throws)

Chain Rs 500

14-34 7 speed freewheel Rs 1000 (same MegaRange with the granny gear I have on currently - for Bhor and Lavasa and the like).

Total Rs 7000

Add another Rs 500 for Cables and fitting.

But the changed feel will be worth it for the old girl!

Will put on the new set of 35c GRLs I've been saving for her as well. Same as the old set I have on right now. Brilliant tyres. 14,000 Kms and still running.

Cheers, Doc

Dunno if thicker tyres equate to more stability
If they do then that's probably maybe an advantage to begginerrs

Doesn't really give the Shimano

Triban RC 100 comes in 2 variants - the flat bar variant is what I suggested for you. For your purpose, it is better than Riverside 500. And couple of kg lighter too.

For Decathlon cycles, use their own site / app. And mail their support ("customer happiness team" is what they say) for availability clues.

Regarding other bikes, look at their weight. RC 100 is 11.x kg. Riverside 100 and 120 are 14.x kg. Not sure of the 500. Anything less than 10kg is priced in six digit range.

I suggest the RC 100 over 500 due to is weight and chain ring (see ebonho's post above).

Shimano for bicycle parts is what Intel is for processors. Or K& N for filters. Or Castrol for lubes. Or the AK 47 of rifles. A market leader, for a reason. But there are other brands which may be more suited for a given budget. And to know more, do watch the video on groupsets I posted earlier today.

2nd one. 1st is discontinued, and I was not aware of it. I am not sure of tech specs, though.

The 2nd one is, like practically everything cycle related, out of stock. You create an account and wait to be notified or mail them. Gets sold out within hours, so you look up the size well in advance. The model is sold online only. So dont expect it in stores.

Re: The Bicycles thread

I have the RC100 flatbar for about 2 years. It's a very good bike for the price. The only problem is that there's no front gearing. That can be a real problem on slopes and hills. I've been in situations where I had to get off and push the bike on a steep slope. So keep this in mind before you buy it. If you want to keep something really long term spend a little more and buy something with front gearing.

True. It's a flatland bike. Rolling at best.

Perfectly at home in Bombay or Delhi or Chennai.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Hey guys, I own a 2017 Montra Madrock 27 inch. I love this bicycle and have done many rides around the city.
I've been facing this odd issue for quite a while, whenever I'm riding in first friction or second friction, if I try to increase the speed of the cycle by applying some force, the chain snaps and it feels like the chain has fallen a few gears below. This is extremely scary while riding on the main roads. The only time I don't find this issue happening is if the cycle is in 6/7th gear or in 3rd friction (inevitably in 6th/7th gear at that point).

Any inputs?

The downtown

https://trackandtrail.in/search/montra%20downtown

Riverside 120 is out of stock. Stick to Decafthlon store / online for their products.

Hey! Checkout this product on Decathlon App https://www.decathlon.in/qr/8389398/-1

As I said earlier, you'll need to create an account and select the "notify me" option, or mail them.

Happy new year to all. 💐💥👍
Here's my stats for 2020. A decent year overall. Good roadie punchy rides early in the year with a lot of PRs (especially on marque climbs) and my fastest 100 (just a shade under 30 kmph).

Then the pandemic and lockdown and my trainer got deployed full power. Structured workouts. Short but very intense. In the next 4-5 months (with 2 lean months when my dog Peppy passed away ... so traumatic for the whole family) I saw a 25% increase in my FTP.

August saw me getting back on the road and boy did I love it! Racking up road miles. On my ACT. The CAAD still on the trainer. Multiple punchy centuries. Good base building.

Started riding my CAAD on the road. Was beginning to really feel the beans, poised on the brink of moving up from my 27+ average century speed to nudging 30, when I crashed really hard end October.

Was off the bike for the next 3 weeks. And made a tentative comeback end November. On my trusty ACT.

After a slow start, not wanting to push too hard or go too deep too soon, I started really cranking out the mike's, and ended the year mopping up 2200+ km in barely a month+ since my comeback, with a Bhor double to top off the year.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Hi all,
Need some help. Took up cycling one month earlier and went through the thread for insights as the present cycle though serving its purpose is not optimal. I am able to cycle 5 days a week around 45mins per day. Limited by time and not from exhaustion and feel I can do more. I
From what I gathered from parts I read from this thread I would need a hybrid cycle and went to track and trail to look for light weight, geared, disc brake variants. I have the option of Cannondale quick 7, Ridley Cordis, Schwinn super sport all of them priced around 35k and Schnell, Montra variants which had the 3 things I am looking for priced around 20k.
My primary purpose is fitness and not touring. Any guidance in this regard will help.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Wonderful episode of bicycling showing on BBC right now, a cycle revolution happening because if Covid_19. I'm recording it. I'm interested in electric bicycles. Where can I get a mid drive motor foldable that is allowed on Metro?

Keeping in mind there is a worldwide shortage of bicycles and parts. Thanks, in advance.

Go with the Cannondale Quick. Lovely lightweight quality racy frame.

I prefer Cannondale quick 7 from the list given

If available try out Trek FX2 disc 2021 or Giant Escape 2 disc 2021

Assuming you slowly upgrade your rides to 50+ kms, Please consider 10-15k for good accessories
1. Good cycling helmet
2. Cyclo Computer
3. Spare tube and puncture kit
4. Front and rear Lights
5. Frame/Saddle bags
6. Cycling shorts and Jerseys
7. Frame pump
9. Cycling gloves
