I think Sub Cross 50 and 40 2021 editions are trickling in. (From posts on FB. weigh around 13 kg - but have suspensions. Also look st the flat bar version of Decathlon's Triban RC 100 at ₹ 20k @ 11 kg.
None of the bikes are available anywhere. Sad part is that I still haven't seen/ridden any of the mentioned bikes.
Thanks for the Triban RC 100 suggestion.

Thanks for the inputs. I have read your posts and that's how I got to know about Marin

FX2 is tempting. Need to see how far I can stretch my budget.
I have already bought all the mentioned items from Decathlon prior to day 1 of cycling itself (except degreaser and lubes). Also got my existing bike serviced. Safety first!

Thanks. The premium range is planned after a few years.

Somebody had posted about the cycle room in their apartment complex. I cant find that post now. Is it possible to post some pics? Particularly about the equipment used.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Attempted a slightly longer ITT today - 25.3 kms. Started really well, but unfortunately was sandwiched between a MTC bus and pavement and had to literally stop and resume. Lost bit of rhythm post that. Half way through had some good crosswinds too. Ultimately ended with an average of 36.7 kmph.
Although I had a really good training block, somehow felt it was not my day! Nevertheless great experience.

Some pics;

Re: The Bicycles thread

Can I please ask for some more advice please. Thanks to all the help from many on this forum, I now regularly do 20 km rides, 5-6 times a week. This is a big deal for me since till I began I was really sedantary, and I'm also 53 now. But never felt fitter !

I now want to go a bit further I live in Gurgaon, and my target is to cycle to India Gate and back by the middle of the year (about 70 km round trip). I already got some good advice from this forum on how to build up to this (thanks very much to everyone who gave me valuable tips), but now I would like to know is it safe to do such long distance on your own, particularly given safety and the way people drive in our country, or should I ensure I go with someone else/ a group? I like riding along, so I'd prefer to do this alone! Please do let me know, and thanks again in advance for the advice !

How long does it take to complete the regular 20 km?

You do not need till the middle of the year to complete 70 km. At 12 - 15 km per hour, the typical speed most people ride a cycle, 5 hours is what you need. Including rests. So an early morning start means mid day return.

I suggest you install Google Fit / Strava on your mobile phone and measure current speed and distance achieved. In the current time you spend cycling, (I guess it is around 90 minutes) increase the distance you cover In 10% increments on a weekly basis. Once you can maintain cycling speed above 15km / hr, then increase time spent cycling. And dont worry if you cant go faster. Just accept you'll take more time to complete this. If you do 30 km 3 times in a month, you can attempt this.

Depending on the fog, start before 5 AM. You probably will be there before 7, and back home by 11.

Safety - if a cyclist cannot be found, ask a family member to follow on a vehicle, maybe? But search social media. Strava has a feature for this. If you are on Facebook, there are cycling groups.

You may need lights on your cycle and a helmet too. I recently got one for my son from Decathlon for 2k. They have a ₹ 1.5k model too. There are models with prices starting at ₹ 4k from brands like Scott, Trek etc. These typically weigh around 275 - 300gm. Lighter ones go into 5 digits.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Thanks for your very useful feedback. I currently do my 20 km in about 75 minutes- my average speed is 17-18 km/h on strava. Thanks for the advice on time- one of the reasons I am saying middle of the year is because I need it to become light early enough to start out early- I'm glad you have also endorsed that !

Mod Note: Please quote ONLY the relevant bits of a post. Quoting a full, long post inconveniences our mobile readers.

I loved 12, 25 and 26. Some are not relevant for India

I was in New Delhi in 1997, and it was the hottest day in previous 50 years. And 2-3 years back, was at Gurgaon where temperature was 8-9⁰C and at Delhi, mid day, it was 24-25. Was at India Gate, I coincidentally. I'd rather do this in cold season when I'll shiver and the exercise will keep me warm. A 7 AM start and 1.00 PM return in February will be better than a 05 AM start in May / June when the helmet will be hot enough to make aloo parathas by 8 AM. This is perspective of a coastal town Southie. I prefer aloo paratha over idlis.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Fellow cyclists, need help!

Due to winter and late sunrises, cycling has been irregular for me for last few weeks. Mostly 1 or 2 short rides per week only. But last 2 weekend rides (different weeks) have given me pain in the muscles. To be precise, both times I developed pain in the muscles which are on the rear side of knee, midway through the ride. The rides weren't very long. Just 50-70 kms. On the last ride I developed pain at around 20 km mark only.

I never faced pain in this part of the body during my last 5/6 years of riding. Nowadays I drink enough water with enerzal etc. so don't think it is related dehydration. I don't know what do they call these muscles in medical jargon. Any idea what could be the issue and what changes I might have to do?

2 options :
1. choosemybicycle online store. I got it from them . ( caution : they were a bit lethargic with status update , after writing a mail everything was prompt. Shipped as per the commitment)
2. Firefox online store ( tried but payment gateway didn’t work)

Prices as below :

Re: The Bicycles thread

Bike wash is showing 960 for me. Is it good? Will i get the discounted rate at check-out? However, I pulled out some Pedro's green fizz (Inspired by you), and started cleaning the Giant . Need to grease the chain as well

Different people have different way to look at things. I prefer group riding since it is more enjoyable and feels like picnic.
If you are worried about safety part, invest well in safety gear like reflective vest, good rear/front lights and ofcourse an excellent helmet.

The other good thing to do is avoid major highways, try and take internal roads so that you can cycle peacefully.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Did another ride to a nearby dam today. 55km round trip to Jadhavwadi dam near Induri, Talegaon. I am trying to do a cycle ride to one dam or water body every weekend . At least for 2 weekends I am on target. Last week Andra Maval dam and this week Jadhavwadi dam. Next weekend will plan for Pavana dam. Anyone from Pune interested in joining me?

Below are a few pics of today's ride.
