Woah! That's a serious bit of machinery there. Kudos buddy. Use her well.

I'm sure you will do a tech write up on her and the specs etc. but I'm more interested in the purchase story.

Cheers, Doc

Awesome bike and that color
One of my riding partners in Madurai, recently got his Blade 795 RS (Red) custom built from Probikers in Chennai. Waiting for your detailed post on components selection process, cost, ride experience etc. Might sway my mind to go for a custom build when I upgrade next year.

Re: The Bicycles thread

I wanted to do a good upgrade sometime during Sep 2020. At that point I was looking at an upgrade from my Merida R400 (Alloy frame/CF forks / 105), but upon advice from my coach and other friends decided to Train harder by investing in a Proper Power trainer. In 6 months, I did many interesting workouts and couple of TTs as well. While the existing bike was still good enough for many more years to come, I decided to bite the bullet and go in for an upgrade.

Initially was leaning towards a TT / Tri Bike. But in current scenario it was very difficult to get TT bikes in my initial budget. Even used scene didn't have many options. I did come across the new 2021 Cervelo Psereis (that comes with both 105 and Ultegra group sets) but upon closer inspection found that there were many compromises in other areas like Brakes, Shifters to keep the costs down. All other major one like Trek Speed concept, Scott Plasma carried waiting period of upto 6 months!

I changed my initial goal and decided to get a proper racing road bike. My three criteria were;
Aero Frame
Need to be Fast (if not the fastest)
Availability
Serviceability (In terms of lesser proprietary parts)

Narrowed it down to the three choices based on availability
Scott Foil 10
LaPierre Aircode SL500
Reacto 6000 (Pre-owned)

But after looking these in person, I was a tad underwhelming for the Price. So decided to go for one super bike level build and be done with my cravings !

Hence started exploring around Frameset + custom build options since it promised to be far more rewarding in terms of satisfaction and uniqueness (although it will most likely be overshooting the budget 2x times)

Again based on local availability had these three in mind
Factor O2 (This is not aero though)
Colnago C64 (again not Aero, but a bike of different level altogether)
BMC Team Machine 02

Factor O2 - Fast, Light, Nimble and Pretty much covered everything under it belt with a Ultegra groupset, Carbon Integrated Steam and 50mm CF wheels. This would have been my choice, had I not looked at 'Look'

Colnago C64 - Was beyond my budget to even start with, only the Ultegra version was possible without any other additional frills - But there was no frame set available for my size !

BMC - While I went to have a look at it, found upon this Look 795 Blade RS. It was just 'looking' plain fast. Dropped the BMC and went into details of this Frame.

The French might not have the Italian flair or the German Perfection, but they have a Panache of their own ! The Look is exactly that. A Unique Aero Frame set that allows for a genuine TT build (if you want it) or keep it as a Aero Road bike and enjoy the all terrain advantage of it.

I had 4 colours to choose (Glossy Black , Red, Peacock Blue and White Team Edition) . In person, IMO, thr white is just too good.

Build. Since I wanted it to be an ultimate super bike level build, decided to go full throttle and key aspects.
  • I chose a Rim brake version of the frame so that, it is easy to swap between my current Merida and the trainer. Also lesser weight and overall opex !
  • Went for full Dura Ace R9100 groupset with the 54-42 chain ring and 170 mm crank. This is primarily for my TT / Race usage in Chennai Flats.
  • Complete Dura Ace from FD, RD, Cassette, Crank, Chain! Again Mechnical for simplicity and easy of swaps
  • Look CF Aero Handlebar (had an option of 3T, Zipp, ITM) but found the Look one better integrated and classy
  • Selle Italia Split Saddle in Carbon TI - One of the best excellent comfort in my short stint and looks totally drool worthy
  • I first thought of having some entry level CF wheels but struck upon a deal of a used Zipp 302 with 40mm deep section for almost the same rate. So just went for it.
  • With lack of availability of tyres, I was fortunate enough to get across a good racing one from Vittoria. Model is Corsa Graphene (25mm)

Some pics for you guys. Yet to take her out on a long ride - Planning one very soon.

Look and Time do the best carbon layup in market, plus they are reported to create frames with the finest tolerances.
French do create the best carbon frames, and one can never go wrong with the 795 frame. Love the SP-01 and Zipp302s. Those deep sections look really well against the frame.

I would hate to take this bike on the road and have even a speck of dirt touch it, she is a real beauty. Congratulations on getting such a beautiful bike.

Fantastic build! And as far as this forum goes you have hit the ball out of the park with this.
Damn, that seat alone costs more than many of the cycles that a lot of us ride!

Care to do a complete cost breakup of the entire build?

Re: The Bicycles thread

To all Bicycle fans,
I have some questions. I started with TI cycles-Mach city Munich single speed and loving it.
1. I am 6 feet tall and want to raise the handle bar. How to do it and is there something to be added to raise the height? Where do we get it online?
2. The plastic mudguard screws get loose and dropping off. Is there a better way?
3. The brakes are factory fit but get loose and dont stop the bike well. Is there a better upgrade recommended?
4. Is there a bicycling group in Hyderabad that is active? I googled a bit but didnt find any active groups

Sweet set of components. The frame and that Selle split saddle are drool-worthy.
I see that you had done a ride in Strava today. How was the ride and how does it compare to your Merida?
Also, what was the cost quoted for the Factor O2/BMC TeamMachine 02 in Chennai?

Re: The Bicycles thread

Thank you everyone for the wishes.

Took her out for the first ride today. But Unfortunately was not able to completely enjoy this beast. Developed little pain in couple of areas, will need to tweak some aspects around the Bike fit.

Here is a good outdoor shot

Had to cut short the ride due to niggles, but from whatever I observed;
  • Exemplary acceleration and sustenance of speeds. The Bike just takes off to 40+ kmph in no time!
  • Very good road manners and composed ride - Reasonably nimble for a Aero Bike!
  • Climbs much better than my Reacto
  • I don't know but the brakes are not very confident inspiring - Maybe I need to get used to it
  • Being new, not everything is smooth, esp shifting in few gears- obviously they will get better after 3-4 rides
  • 54T is just too good for Straights - Strong riders can literally mow through Chennai roads!
  • Zipp hubs produce a superb sound (almost like a flight that is about to land) not too loud to disturb the dogs though

O2 build minimum is 3.4 and can go up to 5.
BMC should be in league of 3.5-4

Will share the split at later point of time for this build. Right now it is on par with top end Tiago

Re: The Bicycles thread

So today I broke my 8th spoke in a span of 5 months. The saga started with my post here around late November and has been going on ever since. I've tried 4 different shops and all of them have beared the same result, so after giving it a fair amount of thought, I've realised whenever my tyre is underinflated or it's been a while since I pumped it up, the spokes do not break. Whenever it is inflated properly, I've broken spokes. Which has led to a curious case of either wearing the tyre out (there's marks of wear all around the sidewall and a considerable tear forming up near the rim which to my understanding is due to underinflation) or breaking spokes. So in conclusion, I think the bicycle just can't handle my heavier than normal weight (~95). *Sigh* I wanted to ride this for longer and had even thought about putting thinner tyres on it, but it seems I shouldn't have got it in the first place. There was no official load rating for it, I got it from the Phadke Houd area in Pune, which basically is the hub for all the Indian brands selling cheap cycles such as Schnell which is the one I have. So after deliberation with HQ, (mainly dad) I have been tasked to find something reasonable that would also be able to handle what I throw at it in the 20-25k range of hybrid models and if possible road bikes. I've mainly been cycling out of passion, fitness combined with a bit of commute to classes and college.

Currently the only option that pops up in my mind, is the RC100 especially the drop bar version. The only downside which I feel is major is the limited gearing, especially with the respect to the route I take usually and the overall topography of Pune. Which is why I wanted to know other options as well. Thanks in advance!
