Re: The Bicycles thread

This is my bike - an Orbea Tenere, with a few upgraded parts:
- a WTB Pure V - Race Saddle,
- RaceFace Ride DH Single Crankset + Da Bomb Recoil DJ Chain Guide,
- SRAM X9 Rear Derailleur 9sp 2010 + SRAM PG980 Cassette + SRAM PC991 Chain
- FireEye PS1 Stem
- FireEye FE254 Handlebar...

I used to use this for commuting to the office in Khar. However, now I work at Marol - so the bike is mainly used for excercise and the odd trail-ride.

There was customs. IIRC, I paid Rs. 5000+ customs for the whole lot.
All that plus the SKS fenders for just Rs 5000? I don't believe it! Sounds like a bargain.

BTW, what model of the Giro did you buy? The Indicator?

Looks like I am misunderstood again (Note to self: Work on your communication skills).

Rs. 5000 was the customs duty only Sir.

Now that makes sense! Not a problem with your communication skills; I misread that as "Rs 5000 plus customs". Incidentally, I recently bought a pair of SKS Chromoplastics and a Giro Rift helmet from Amazon.com. But I shipped it to someone who was visiting India, so I could legally avoid shipping cost and customs duty.

Danger ??

Would you consider cycling to work at around 5.30 pm and back at around 4.00 am - a dangerous activity. The ride is about 11 kms one way. This would be with a helmet.

Let me know your views.

^^ Actually 4am would be a safer activity, considering majority of the cars/bikes/autos off the road and also the muggers sleeping somewhere in their dens. Stray dogs might give you a bit difficult time though. 5.30pm would be like any other day for many who travels to office daily. I find it's better to avoid major roads like ORR if possible(once the service road in place then it would be better anyway), otherwise just keep to the extreme left and be very careful while switching lanes to take U-turns and all. Personally I'm not very comfortable riding on ORR during rush hour.

I guess it totally depends on the area.
I remember cycling at around 5 AM in Chennai without any issues. But that was over 15 years back.

Does your route involve western or eastern highway?

Re: The Bicycles thread

Amidst the din of gears / gear talk, an interesting quote...

"I still feel that varable gears are only for people over forty-five.
Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer?
We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"

Schwinn Discover

Hey guys,

Just bought a new bike.

I had a Raptor mountain bike that I bought during my University years.
It was a 15-speed cheap heavy steel framed bike that was more or less lying dormant for the past couple of years so I sold it for a tiny profit after 9 years.

This is my new one ->

Schwinn Discover 700c Hybrid.

Shipping box:

Partially assembled:

After assembly:

I love it. The Aluminum frame's nice and light and the bike's perfect for the urban environment I usually ride in.
