The one on the right, a regular Desi one seen since childhood... I never heard of an adaptor for the common cycle valve. What do I ask for in the local shop?

There could be 2 possibilities - either the pump is meant only for Presta valves or your valve in the tube is faulty. The Schrader valve (the desi one, as you called it) usually, does not require any kind of adapter. Try to poke the valve with a blunt object, like a match stick and see if you can release air. Please post the make / model of your pump

Thank you all for suggesting which bike to buy.

I picked the Giant Boulder 2 Boulder 2 (Red) (2011) - Bikes | Giant Bicycles | Australia

Total Damage: 16028/-

Overall I liked the Rockrider 5.2, somehow did not offer me a good riding position.

I was tempted to buy the Trek 3700, on further discussions with an cycle expert found that Trek is Honda of Bicycles. Brand value demands for that extra 4-5k.

FLP 5000 Cycling Air Pumps - Decathlon India

Bought it today as an Eid gift for myself.
Restarting cycling this Friday after a month long break.

I started cycling in mid June. Weighed around 102.5 Kilos.

I did not cycle the whole of August due to Ramzan. But was careful with my diet.
Coming back to office after Eid, I decided to weigh myself in the Gym.
97.5 Kilos.

While weight loss was not on my agenda, its a nice side effect of cycling.

Good to know that you took to cycling. There are really amazing trails and roads in Hyderabad. I saw few people ride on the new Gachibowli - Airport Road and I feel it's an awesome road to try as it has good up-slope's which will put your resolve to test. Will carry my bikes on my next trip to Hyderabad and will try this stretch of road.

The great part about cycling in Hyderabad are the roads.
Most of them are fairly decent blacktops.
The traffic sense is bad, but its the same story in most parts of India.

The best thing is the hilly terrain. It gives one a lot of challenges to keep the motivation factor high.

This is the elevation profile for the ride to office today.
For regular cyclists its most probably mundane and insignificant.

But for a guy like me with just under 400kms done and using his cycle as a daily commute to home-office. It felt great.

The distance was almost 12 kms. Time taken in traffic was 45 minutes.
The roads are Banjara Hills Rd 12, Jubillee Hills Rd 45 and Madhapur main road.

Wow.. bblost.. you have lost quite a few kilos. I have done 2265kms in 53 days and have lost just 1.5kgs... envy you....

I know this road, it's decent enough challenge to ride to work. Am sure that on weekends, you can find enough roads within Banjara and Jubliee hills that can put your resolve to test. That one that I would definitely try the next time I am there is the one that comes from Khairthabad to Taj Krishna. It's one hell of a decent up-slope.
