But I make sure the tyre pressure stays above 50 PSI.
Finally settled for Rs. 1850/tyre Schwalbe Marathon. Thanks.

Just came to know new 2018 range of Scott bikes is available and a new model Metrix 50 has been introduced (flat handlebar hybrid with Altus groupset and hydraulic disc brakes) at 34.5k. Worth checking out. Found a dealer "D Byk Store" at Viman Nagar, no. 917020425618.

Thank you Anand for taking the trouble of hunting for this model and posting the details here, really appreciate it. Will check out the details of this bike online and if possible also visit the above dealer.

Just today I took a test ride of Marin Faifax SC1. Very good bike, weighing just 11.5 kg. Here is a demo of how light this bike is. Although this is small size, the medium & large won't be much different.

Re: The Bicycles thread

I want to buy a cycle for my son-6 years old. His height is 120cm

My budget is around 5k to 6k.

I think 20 inch will be ok for him. The priorities are- reasonably light, good sturdy build and easy to maintain.

Should i look at a geared or non geared one?

What are my options.

Finally took the plunge and bought myself the Marin Fairfax SC1 on Saturday (M size) from Marin Bikes, Kothrud. Listed price was 31K, with 5% discount I got it for 29.45K. From the same shop I got two aluminium bottle holders fitted (Rs 250/- each), A Shwalbe spare tube (Rs 350/-) and MET helmet for Rs 2650/-. Here are some pics.

Here in the Netherlands E-biked are making almost 35% of the new bicycles sold. I don't see myself buying an E-bike anytime soon. But earlier today at a steam event I came across this steam bicycle. Definitely need one of those

Vow never seen anything like that till now. Do you have more info? I mean how steam is filled in those cyclinders, what is the range? Without steam assistance that bike must be pretty tough to pedal with so much of weight on it.

Good purchase - seems like he got the 5% back in accessories But they are required; I'd also suggest a decent lock, multi-tool keyset and a puncture kit to go along, if you don't already have them.

You are right mate . Not a single rupee reduced on accessories. I didn't mind spending that much on Helmet & bottle holders, because those were a must. I have already got one wire lock (with 3 digits key). I have a long list of items to be purchased online, will add the multi-tool keyset and a puncture kit to it.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Hi all, need help again!

I upgraded to a Roadeo A-300 four years ago from a Hero Cyclone. Since then, cycling has been a part of my life, going to tuition classes, school and just riding for fun. However, the Roadeo got stolen last year which was a very sad and surprising incident, and since I had no plans to buy a bicycle then, I bought a Rock 1.0 from a school senior which was a bit over a year old. The shifters had been replaced and there were a few things to be sorted out here and there, but the frame was in great shape. Since I was getting it for just 4.5k, I took the plunge. It was not a very good decision, and frankly I regret it now.

The Montra keeps having problems with the derailleur, and its time to replace a lot of things like the saddle which has worn out and the tyres and tubes. That is quite a bit of money, and frankly, I am not sure about it.

I have decided to cycle to school everyday from this year until school ends in two years. I need something that lasts me these two years. What should I do? Should I repair and replace the parts in the Montra and keep riding it? Or should I get rid of it and settle for something else? Not really willing to spend much money at all since it is a matter of <2 years. Even though I have been cycling since a long time now, the whole scene still appears to be very confusing for me. I will be riding on mostly paved roads and some bad roads that's part of the commute. All I want is something that feels like an upgrade and is relatively trouble free.

Thanks,
Neel

I had never seen a steam powered bicycle before either. It has it’s own little boiler, propane fired by those vertical hanging bottles on the side!

Here you can see it in action

Re: The Bicycles thread

If low weight is an objective I'd go for Giant SCR2. It was an unbelievable 6 kilos!!!

Been ages since I disposed of it, but I'm hoping the bike will find its way back to my garage some day.

Did I read it right? I thought the entry level road bikes are on the higher side of 10 kg.

Also, the current line up of Giant has SCR under Fitness category as entry level and Contend under Allrounder category. Any idea what is the difference? Geometry and spec wise both are similar.
