Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

As expected, England troubled Sri Lanka and restricted them to under 250. Sri Lanka lost their first 2 wickets in the first 2 overs and were 5 down for 150 odd, finally managing 232/9 which should be a pretty easy chase for England, let's see.

On the points table:
At this stage, seems like India & England will share the 1/2 positions followed by Australia and New Zealand at 3/4. India Vs Australia/New Zealand semi-final is a possibility then

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Wow, it looks like a low scoring thriller with England 8 down and needing 55 runs in as many balls! This could be an upset win for Sri Lanka

Edit:If England lose today, their remaining matches are against India, new Zealand and Australia the other teams in the top 4 currently, so potentially their position in the table may be impacted, finally interesting twist in this world cup

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

This has been a disciplined bowling performance by Sri Lanka. Not quite the "easy" win everyone expected.

Update: An excellent win for Sri Lanka. Exactly the sort of upset that can spark their dismal WC campaign so far. Top 4 is thrown open.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Match seems to be delicately poised. Will England be able to pull it off?

Probability seems to be 68% 32% in favour of SL

Good one by SL!

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

England will play a knock out match against NZ on July 3rd, both these teams have tough games ahead. The abandoned match against India has benefitted the Kiwis, Bangladesh and England are likely to fight for the 4th spot.

Quite unlikely and hypothetical but what happens if England lose their remaining matches against Australia, India and New Zealand ? They may end up at #5 and will not qualify ?

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

6Hopefully we bat first today. Will help in improving NRR which may come handy being no.1 or 2 in the table at the end. Plus match will be highly boring if afghanis bat first.
Should play DK or Pant instead of Shankar who might not be back to full fitness and will do good with rest today.

More excited to watch Nz vs Windies. Could be a close one if windies show some spine today and play it like an odi rather than a t20.

As for England losing yesterday. I feel there overconfidence is going to doom them. They have the notion of bat deep but they have failed twice while chasing. Aussies too failed chasing against India. Seems, the trend in the tournament so far is bat first and get 330+ and probability of winning the match gets extremely high. Thanks to Lankans we finally have some spice in the tournament.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

I think Rishabh Pant should play instead of Kedar Jadhav, since Shami is replacing Bhuvi, and Bhuvi being a better lower order batsman, its better to get Rishabh Pant in, can improve the run rate in the ending overs too.
Kedar Jadhav did not bowl in the last match as well, and did not get a chance to score too. We will not miss him much as of now.

Depending upon the situation, India should be ready to play MS Dhoni or Pant at No.4.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

A good opportunity to get DK in today, hopefully win the toss, bat first and get 350+. Will definitely give much needed match practice for DK (if he gets to bat), give some confidence for our bench strength and also improve Net run rate.

Yes I think so. Pak might sneak in if that happens, and that is not an impossible scenario. Pak will need to win all their remaining games though.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Mujeeb gets Rohit (who struggled to get 1 run off 10 balls) and India 7/1 in 4 odd overs, what's happening ? Will Afghanistan do a Sri Lanka on India today ? A test for India's batting today ?

That was poor batting by rohit. The over before you could see he was struggling to pick the wrong one from mujeeb and managed to just about keep out 2 balls. He even mimed to himself that the bowler was bowling the wrong ones. Still he was lazy and did not read it off his hand.

The pitch is slow and ball is not coming onto the bat but virat comes in and makes it looks really easy. Virat is in a different league.

True and the same reason for Rahul's wicket, he has so much talent but just throws away his wicket with wrong choice of ambitious shots. This was a great opportunity to play himself in and get a big score. Of course Kohli is as usual in a different league, hope he gets a big score.
Surprised why DK wasn't given a chance, let go of a good opportunity to test bench strength.

The problem with rahul is that he does not have the temperament to work for runs when it is not his day. You could see today that shot making was difficult (I have no clue why commentators are saying it is a good batting wicket.. it is slow and everyone except kohli have found it difficult to time the ball) but he was not willing to put his head down and earn his runs.

I think the reason that vijay shankar was preferred over DK is bhuvi's absence. You are not sure what you are going to get from shami.

I think chahal and kuldeep are going to enjoy bowling in this wicket.
