Boring monotone & too analytical commentary. Its like attending a physics lecture.
Well let me tell the world the top #3 worst commentators are in the following order

1. Sanjay Manjrekar
2. Sanjay Manjrekar
3. Sanjay Manjrekar

The problem with Sanjay is that he is a bits and pieces commentator

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

The topic of poor commentary takes me back to the time when Doordarshan started cricket coverage. The TV commentators were not ex cricketers who were chosen for their knowledge of the game. They were drawn from All India Radio where the requirement was to describe every move on the field to an unseeing audience. Sushil Doshi and Co were never told of the change of audience and tortured us for a full decade with their verbal diarrhoea.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

After South Africa got a decent 325, in reply, Australia is in a spot of bother at 95/3 in 19 overs and Khawaja is retired hurt with a hamstring injury. So, another 5 wickets will seal the game for South Africa. Or Aus may just run of steam and fail to get 326 even if they manage to not lose all their wickets.
If that happens, it will be Australia-England and India-New Zealand playing the semis

I find him an extreme pseudo put-on past his novelty sell by date by about a decade and a half, to be honest.

Personally, regardless of how articulate they are or their accent etc. I look forward to commentary and tech, mental, strategic insights of guys who've played and excelled at the highest level.

Bhogle was fine in the very begining when he played the role of support cast and deferred to expertise and real life experience.

Also, that was a time when too many ex cricketers had not yet come into mainstream commentary as today.

Such is no longer the case.

And for a long time now Bhogle has become stale, predictable, repetitive, contrived, and worse, has taken on airs that he's never earned on the field.

A lot of us (including me) can't stand him.

I'd take Manjrekar over him ... If you held a gun to my temple and said I had to pick one.

Cheers, Doc

To be honest, it's not really a priority issue for me.

I don't watch cricket for the commentary. As long as they don't get on my nerves, it's background noise for me.

I like Laxman speaking Hindi though.

Cheers, Doc

Who can forget Bipin Wagle? He was DD's multitalented commentator from domestic sports to Olympics. There was no option to mute as he would do solo both in Hindi and English. The best among Indian commentators were Narottam Puri and Anupam Gulati.

Bhogle is great. Unbiased and inspite being not a player has great insights about the game.
Slater and Clarke are the biggest biased ones.
Agree with others in your list and will add Atherton and the dugout team people like Dean Jones, Lara, Styris, Lee in the liked ones.

Btw, amazing match yesterday. Watched it till last over and though SA tried there best to lose Aussies didn't obliged

What we all wanted happened. Table toppers and playing NZ on Tuesday.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Wow, we're now at the semi final stage and after a rather boring start to the world cup, the latter few matches got quite interesting with some unpredictable results also included

Most of us had predicted at least 3 of the 4 semi finalists as it seemed like a no-brainer (Australia, England, india) and many got New Zealand too but I'd expected it would be west Indies and they had a rather lacklustre tournament with some flashes of brilliance peppered into their performances.

I hope and pray that India will just extend their form and confidence to play couple more good games to take the cup home.

New Zealand look jaded and heavily dependent on few players but then if they roar back to form in the semi final it should be game on for us!

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

So we got what we wanted - NZ in the Semis.

I'd really like to see us go in with both Kuldeep and Chahal for this game.
- Boundaries at Old Trafford are big. So they can have plenty of protection in the deep.
- NZ haven't really shown they can dominate quality spin

But, Kohli may like to go in with Jadeja as he is a safer option in terms of containment and he also brings some value as a lower order bat. Statistically the ground has favoured seamers more than spinners. But going with just one spinner just doesn't feel right for an Indian team.

I think Robin Uthappa is also a very good commentator (at Cricbuzz).

The newest guest appearance in the worst commentators of all time - Sachin Tendulkar. HE IS HORRIBLE!
