Shami has been a better bowler than Kumar in this WC. But Kumar in today.

If India beat NZ today and then beat Eng in finals, then India would have won against all teams and hence a worthy WC champion. No other side can boast on this.

That bloke is making more than run a ball. A good fielder & catcher. Why pick on him?

On SA, their coach has ran out of all excuses and blaming on "time" - 'Time was always against us' - Gibson on South Africa's World Cup

India lost the toss, then lost a review (for lbw against Guptill) but made up with 2 maiden overs followed by the wicket of Guptill, good clean catch in the slips by Kohli.

So much is happening within the first half hour. 1st ball review and lost DRS, first 3 overs giving away one run, Guptill again out. Hope we bowl tidily all along and keep them to a low score.

Actually I would have wanted to play all the three seamers and Jadeja/Jadhav instead of DK.
But I guess team management wanted to play a bit safe by strengthening the batting having an extra batsman.
Problem is that in case one of the bowlers goes for runs we dont have a fall back option. Worse even if one of them gets injured as Bhuvi did earlier.
Well well what did i do? Why did I post that? Who will complete Pandya's remaining overs now!!

Well I'd say Sir Jadeja has already justified his selection/inclusion in the XI. And he hasn't even batted yet!

Gave me a scare too! Looked up the ODI bowling history of the squad and looks like Rohit Sharma has bowled a bit too. But neither he nor Kohli has had to bowl in a long time.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Ball is gripping and the wicket is taking a lot of turn. Jadeja got a couple to go a long way and Chahal turned a couple square. Ball was kicking up some dust as well. NZ seem to have lowered their target a bit seeing the way they are going. Hope we don't leak runs in the latter part of the innings. This has the makings of a tight low scoring pressure match!

It is going to be that kind of uncertain score. Something between 220-240, and such totals are always very tricky to chase down.

Dont want the Indian team to get complacent chasing a low target. They have bowled well. Now bat well and get over with it.

I think 15-25 runs are already leaked. The wet wicket is going to make Santner a deadly bowler if he gets the turn. I was really surprised at exclusion of Shami. he was picking wickets and providing early break throughs. Pant is the new Suresh Raina, irrespective of his performance he is included in the final XI.

NZ were going at 3.49 run rate and suddenly I saw the run rate zoom to 4.5. Hope Indians restrict the black caps to less than 230

What will happen if rains spoils the remaining play? Will we have a re-match? What options are there?

First endeavor will be to complete the match today, even if it is 20 overs a side.

Else we resume the match tomorrow from wherever it stopped. In the current state NZ will resume their innings tomorrow. In case some more play is possible, then resume from wherever India / NZ were.

And if tomorrow is rained out as well, we are in the finals coz we finished first.

If the final is rained out, the finalists share the trophy. How would that feel, I wonder ? Will it even remotely feel like a win ?

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

I just hope we do not get into a 20/20 match situation. Noway we can score above 7 runs per over in a semi final + successfully transition into a T20 mindset while playing a 50 over tournament.

This is looking ominous for India.

rain god, do not let the match resume today.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

After that defeat to England, Indian Team has deviated away from their strategy of playing 2 wrist spinners & putting pressure on the opposition by taking wickets in the middle overs. Kuldeep hasn't looked threatening apart from that spell against Pakistan, Chahal has been a mixed bag, bowled well in patches.

Although Jadeja bowled an economical spell today & probably offers more utility as a player, Shami the rhythm with which he's bowling should have been picked ahead of Jadeja only due to the overcast conditions. Once Bumrah/Bhuvi finished their first spell, pressure was let off. Thankfully, NZ got India back into the game by going into their shell by playing lots of dot balls before the 25th over!

I think its going to be an interesting second half with the Indian chase. Ball will certainly do a bit because the pitch has been covered for a few hours. If its a shortened game, the run rate will be much stiffer! DLS method does a few strange things.

India's target in case New Zealand doesn't bat again -
46 overs - 237
40 overs - 223
35 overs - 209
30 overs - 192
25 overs - 172
20 overs - 148

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Why can't we play rest of the match tomorrow? It will be ridiculous if its a T20 match today. I still remember the 2013 Champions Trophy finals in UK were also reduced to a T20 affair and was horribly out of place.
