Michael Vaughan uses a hilarious meme to ask Sanjay Manjrekar to unblock him.

Well played Ravindra Jadeja, says Sanjay Manjrekar with a wink!

Isn't he just flew a couple of weeks back?

Kohli (along with selectors) built a joke team for WC. The backup wicketkeeper is No 5. A rookie guy who was relaxing with family is No 4. Highest wicket taker for the team doesn't get a game. Jadeja doesn't get a game till the end. The batting line up was poor in all the matches. Kohli has failed strategically & tactically. He was riding on Rohit Sharma's form in the league matches. Today when Rohit Sharma was out, instead of putting his head down & grind the bowling, he tried an atrocious flick early in his innings and was LBW. After him, who did he think will come and get remaining 200 odd runs?

This is England where the ball would seam & swing on some days. On such days we need a solid No 4 to pivot the innings. Nobody did that job for India in this WC.

Why is it that whatever Manjrekar predicts doesn't happen? Captains should seek his advice so they will know what not to do in a match. He has been a disaster this world cup.

While India was torn into bits and pieces, he was our only hope, but it was a big ask from him without support from the other players. This knock reminded me of Hardik Pandya's in the last Champions Trophy. Infact this entire match was so similar to that

If Kohli has one iota of shame left in his body, he should step down and hand the captaincy to the selfish No-hit Sharma.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

That run out was heart breaking :( . Jadeja played a great hand and looked like the only one in the team who seemed to have the belief that we could still win this and brought us so close. Dhoni played a typical calculated knock, but once we got to 30 balls remaining I feel he should have taken the initiative. When you are looking for singles only, the odd dot ball here and there really takes its toll. He should have backed off or charged or done something once there were just 30 balls to go. Left it for too late and eventually it proved costly. We were really just 3 or 4 hits away.

Pandya above Dhoni was an inexplicable move. Pant was at the other end , so we needed the experience of Dhoni to nurture him and carry the innings. Pandya was really needed in those late overs.

The defeat was painful but i was dumbfounded by Ganguly's commentary in the last stages where he kept praising Dhoni when he hardly showed any intent & was reluctant to play the big shots! He kept repeating 'Dhoni knows, Dhoni knows,he's the best' ! Singles were never going to win us the game.

No offences sir, but like Sanjay Manjeraker's appreciation for Jadeja looks more of a sarcasm, I assume Ganguli was doing the same. --NOM-- he continued this even after the match.

I am happy that Sir Jadeja did well.

I believe MS Dhoni should now hang up his boots for some young blood, and instead of Karthik, Pant and Pandya at No 4, we need a proper batsman like a Ross Taylor at No.4. No more wicketkeepers please!
We are all talking in theory but if MS is in at 5, others can play around him. He has an innocuous technique but very safe against the moving ball as well. Pandya & Pant would not have gone for rash strokes when they did.

Jaddu played an amazing innings. It was too bad we lost both him and MS together. Got to give credit to Kiwis too, stuck to their guns and the bowling saw them through.

Anyway, I see MSD retiring once he gets back home, unless BCCI draws him into a farewell game. He has never been much for emotions (example - Retired in Tests when he could have held on to play 100 Tests). I have nothing but love and admiration for the man who has given it everything for this team. But it's time he moves on. The game will never be the same after him. Well played!

Absolutely bang on. Could not have put it better. I'll use these lines somewhere.

I can't understand the veiled hate against Dhoni. Top order collapses, the famed Kohli can't do anything about it and we are hating a guy who nearly brought us to victory. He should have dived it seems. Heck, Kohli and Nohit should have batted!

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Nobody seems to be talking about KL Rahul. Pretty average tournament he had. When you’re the opener of Indian team in the world cup, you are expected to do better. Losing Dhawan to
Injury was a bigger setback than we anticipated. We didn’t have any specialised opener as his replacement and that also came back to bite us today.

Dhoni will also be disappointed with his performance in the tournament but he is far past his prime. He will always be respected and loved for what he has given to Indian and world cricket. In fact he is considered such a figure that it pains me to see him struggling against bowlers whom he would’ve hit out of the park at his whim and fancies in his prime. Someone said that the game will never be the same again. Could not have been said better.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

I don't remember Dhoni getting run out much during all his career, but today was the day, sadly.

It was an absolute blunder to send Dhoni after 5 wickets down. He should have come after 2 down. Number 4 batting position has become a joke. It's a position for legends and not for rookies.

Constant shuffle of middle order in the last 1 year has costed India this world cup.

Remember the IPL finals? He was run out there and now again. He may be fast between the wickets but then not as fast as before.
He is like our Mig-21, quick and agile, can take down F16s once in a while, but is past his prime.

Extremely well written. Really sad to see MSD playing his last WC match. What a career he has had. Specially when many expected that Indian cricket after the retirement of the big 4 would be over. But MSD took us to new heights and changed the way we play cricket.

But all said and done, it will likely be a mystery why MSD was not sent in earlier to bat!

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

The writing was on the wall for Dhoni from 3 years, remember how people reacted to Yuvraj's performance in 2014 T20 WC. He was our true hero of 2007 and 2011 WC triumphs. MSD was our best wicket keeper after Syed Kirmani.

I just read that there were 6 players outside the circle during P3, even the ball before Dhoni's run out. Did anybody check the number of fielders outside the circle when ball was bowled to Dhoni during his run out? The umpiring standards has been the worst of all times in this WC.
