Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Good toss to win (and bat first) for India. They're now off to a good start against the Windies, but felt Rohit's DRS decision was a bit harsh as the ultraedge wasn't conclusive enough (most likely off the pad than the bat).

Also, India has gone unchanged probably to retain the winning combination against a good team like West Indies, I guess they will try out bench strength against Afghanistan and maybe Sri Lanka, not even Bangladesh probably!

These days, I have this nervous feeling - the moment India's top 3 are back to the dug out, the opposition is into our tail. Not a good feeling to have.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Some good pressure cricket being played out right now. India's middle order is looking fragile with Kohli still out there! We need Rohit to fire at the top to get a good fast start. Rahul seems to be very ginger with his batting. I agree with most here that Shankar is not no. 4 material. He doesn't seem to have a good backfoot game and hasn't really shown he can dominate the spinners. Shankar and Jadhav - two slots where we need better quality given these are specialist positions. Shankar had a great chance today and was shaping up nicely but got out to an innocuous loosener from Roach.

Shankar wasn't exactly shaping up nicely.

His first boundary was a misfield of sort, with the fielder deciding to not slide, but use his feet to stop.
His second boundry, he was put in an awkward position with that bouncer, which he somehow managed to glance it to fine leg.

As I had noted earlier, the current Indian team lacks No 4. Kohli is known to give a long rope to the player he likes. (Rahul got one during last test series in England). Shankar is a part-time batman, part-time bowler and is the wrong choice for No 4. When he comes at No 4, it seems Shankar is sent as a pinch hitter to improve scoring. In fact, Jadhav has a better batting record than Shankar.

PS: Considering English conditions, my dark horse for No 4 would have been Pujara.

He played a nice cover drive for four, then a nice on drive for four. Yes the leg glance wasn't convincing, but he was looking organised and tight in his defense. I would like to see some attacking shots off the back foot. If your can't cut or pull convincingly you will find it tough in non sub continent conditions. He had time to build an innings here. Unfortunately the lack of pace of the Roach loosener foxed him. He played too early, probably expecting more pace from Roach.

Dhoni's done it again. Bat like a sloth and put pressure on the other batsman and then waste some more deliveries and walk back.

Enough is enough.

Shubhman Gill @ 4
Lapedu Pant @ 5

For the next 10 matches immediately after the WC.

They could even give the other Pandya brother a chance.
Spins well, bats better than the Jadhav's and Shankar's.

Quite disappointed right now with how our batting is turning out. We used to be a Batting heavy side and look how we are performing in last two matches.
There is no proper batsmen number 4 onwards, and it hurting us big time.

I feel KL Rahul has filled those shoes alright. Has contributed consistently. The thing with the current Ind line up is such that even if one of the opener fails, the middle order is just not able to provide any kind of support.

I agree. Krunal is also a decent player at 6. The best part about him is his temperament. Unflappable.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Okay i take my words back. He uped the tempo well today. Problem is on the day he fails, like against afghanistan it does not make for good viewing.

Anyways we have a score that our bowlers can defend. But windies are mavericks.. they may just T off to a blast.

Actually I wouldn't mind that from MSD, as he is the best keeper one can ask for, and many a times, can be the difference between the two teams.
We all know what he usually tries to do. Tries to bat till the 45th and then speed up from there.
Agreed that recently he's failing more often after reaching the 45th, but not giving away wicket till 45th should not be discounted either.
