Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Like the DLS method in cricket, this calculation for NRR is also flawed.

How could it be possible that batting second will not give Pakistan a chance to improve their NRR beyond New Zealand.

Then a team that has had to chase more times than other is at a serious disadvantage that they cannot improve their runrate with victories the same way batting first does. Puts a lot more emphasis on winning the toss.

Ok that said, I believe this Pakistan team is over rated. Atleast for past 8-10 years our indian team has been way better than Pakistan. Had we played more matches as was the case before the turn of the century, I am more than certain we could have improved our overall record against them and lead the head to head count.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

^^ You have a good point there. But now what is surprising is the approach of Pak batters. I just logged on to see some firecrackers but their run rate is more or less test-match type. 31/1 after 9!

Are they aware of any other statistic/ method of qualifying that we aren't? Else this is not making any sense.

They are so enamoured by the Indian team that they are trying to emulate the Kohli-Rohit innings couple of matches back.

I think they are probably just focusing on winning this match rather than chasing an unrealistic statistic. Though, they should have gone for it.

The only difference that this wouldn't dent chances of India or any other team except for themselves.

I think Pakistan misunderstood. Seems they have thought that they need to win after scoring 316 runs :P

Maybe Bangladesh also think Pakistan shouldn't win after scoring 316...so trying hard to restrict them below 316

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Pakistan managed 315/9 and the target for Bangladesh is 316

If Bangladesh can get these runs and win it will be a great end to their campaign in this edition of the world cup. If Pak win, it will be a consolation for pride.

While DLS may not be the ideal one, it is best among the math methods. It is being used for the last 20 years and it appears fair for both batting & bowling sides.

Shakib - What a player, a true all rounder. Top class batting and bowling.

If there is a prize for the worst commentator, top three contenders would be
1. Sanjay Manjrekar
2. Kumar Sangakkara
3. Ramiz Raja
Boring monotone & too analytical commentary. Its like attending a physics lecture.

Re: The Cricket Thread

After a good start, India is just allowing the game to drift away and Sri Lanka have recovered well. Angelo Mathews has troubled India in the past with his batting and he does it yet again with good support for Thirimanne who also seems to coming back to form courtesy India!
Fielding has been a few notches down today with dropped catches and missed run out chances. If Sri Lanka get 270+ this won't be an easy chase me thinks.

I see Ganguly fighting it out to be in the top three. Every time, I hear his commentary, he keeps mixing Chahal with Kuldeep and vice versa. That is just one point and there are more with which we can create a list.

Another failure for Rohit Sharma. This is getting ridiculous now.
