Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

A t20 style chase would have been a lottery for both sides. A longer game gives both a fairer chance to control, their destiny.
India probably would be the happier of the teams as they would have a chance to see what's happening off the pitch tomorrow too. But too many variables, lets hope for the best.

Somehow small totals are always tricky , have a bad feeling that we will struggle today.

In this world cup, the so-called substandard cricketers (pun intended) are the expert commentators especially the Hindi commentators. They have copied a new word 'intent' coined by Ganguly and use it n number of times during a match when they have nothing to say. The Hindi commentary is as cheap as it can be.

There's used to be a time when cricket commentary was class apart.

Looks like we will need a lightning start. Rohit and Rahul should go all out against the hard new ball.

Probably 60-70 runs for a couple of wickets in the first 10 overs and then singles should do.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Whatever the final target, India should be well aware of DLS and be over par score starting from over 20. Otherwise, there are chances of losing by DLS if rain stops play.

But he never makes amends - even yesterday as soon as jadeja came on to bowl, he continued by saying Jadeja has proved himself as a very good Test bowler stressing on the word Test!
These commentators always have contradictory opinions on team composition. Example - If Kedar plays they question his utility and if he's dropped like in this match, then they say we will miss him as a cover for the fifth bowler

The only worry today is in the event of a shortened game and alternative target, we will need to stay ahead of the D/L par score.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

I read today's weather forecast is as bad, if not worse compared to yesterday's? Are you guys aware about this? Is there a high chance we walk into the finals without batting a single delivery?

It would not be fair if India walk into the finals without batting a single delivery. According to Accuweather, it will remain cloudy through out the day and rain at around 12 PM and 5 PM. Going by this, we should have some game time and see some Indian batting.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

It's going be a tricky chase for India considering they have to keep DLS in mind. That will make it tough for pacing the innings.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

I think 148 being stipulated score for a 20 over match does not mean india have to be at that score when playing for 50 overs and match suddenly gets truncated due to rain at 20 overs.

In this case the par score will be decided by the number of wickets that have been lost.
So chasing 250 odd in 50 overs, the par score for 20 overs could be even 90 for no loss.
148 comes into play only of it rains much before 20 overs and the match is then truncated.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

I say this because in one of the earlier matches (i think against pakistan) although india had put up in excess of 300 batting first, par score for pakistan while chasing in 20 overs for loss of 1 wicket was 109 odd runs.

Yup. Just that the outfield at Old Trafford does not dry fast. Without sun, water in outfield, not sure about prospects.

I watch the matches on mute , mainly for 3 reasons
1. Inane commentary with no insights
2. Avoid getting caught by my wife
3. I find the OBO blog on the Guardian more entertaining than the live commentary

With so much said about Sanjay Manjrekar, I watch the India matches on Star select HD.

What is the advantage of watching on Star Select HD? I don't have this channel in my bouquet currently.

They don't allow Manjrekar on Star Select HD?

Btw, I like his commentary. On the other hand, I can't stand Naseer Hussain's condescending tone. Can't seem to forget he called Indian fielders "donkeys" on the field during a test series few years back.

Here's the link.
