Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

I watch the matches with Kannada and Telugu commentary, it is fun to watch with Kannada especially because they use pakka local language.

I can't, for the love of Vishnu, not understand how this DLS pans out!

I'd rather have a complete 50 over match. This pitch would also become trickier today with the overnight covers on and the pitch sweating in. Our openers have to bat well today.

Btw, I like his commentary. On the other hand, I can't stand Naseer Hussain's condescending tone. Can't seem to forget he called Indian fielders "donkeys" on the field during a test series few years back.

Here's the link.
If I remember correctly, that was particularly targeted at Parthiv Patel. In the next match, where he opened the innings, he got a quick 95 silencing Hussain.

Back to today's game, it will be disappointing if India walks to final without a proper game and without a fair chance to opposition. For the sake of cricket, may the better team win.

1. Lesser advertisements
2. I find the "Dugout" to be more practical and engaging
3. No Sanjay Manjrekar (or should it be #1?)

I subscribed to the "Select" channels for sports that they cover there, say, Grand slam tennis, F1 etc.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

I actually like the commentators speaking their mind which is a rare thing these days. Most folks here don't seem to like Sanjay Manjrekar. I rather like some of his blunt speak. He comes from the 'khadoos' Mumbai school of cricket and that reflects in his personality and his commentary. He has written a terrific book, ironically titled "Imperfect" which stands head and shoulders above any book written by an ex-India player. It is brutally honest. Do give it a read.

In it Sanjay has been very critical about his own mental approach and his obsession with batting technique which led to his downfall. Where do you see such kind of honesty these days in the era of inflated egos?

Surely a throw-away comment about Jadeja should not have elicited so much trolling. At this rate, all you will be left with is a bunch of talking heads who toe the line and speak politically correct things. Where's the fun in that? As far as Vaughan goes, his sole existence these days is as a twitter troll and Sanjay is not the first or the last one he will target.

All this noise about he said/she said obfuscates the real issue which is board contracted 'commentators'. All the boards have them. Ironically Sanjay is also a contracted commentator. This means that everything they say is vetted by their board. This leads to boring, toe-the-line commentary. Where clear sell-outs like Ian Healy or Micheal Clarke are cheerleading in the commentary box instead of doing their jobs.

Micheal Holding was recently asked to tone down his criticism.

And here is a delightful exchange between Nasser Hussain (who is known for his straight talk) and Ravi Shastri where Nasser talks about his right to criticise. May we have more of this.

It has Dugout team comprising of Scott styris, kumble, dean Jones, Brett lee, Brian lara, Parthiv, Irfan, Hessen etc. They are quite good and much much better than useless Manjrekar and company. I always watch India matches on Select HD. Plus they have very few ad breaks and their technical analysis is totally worth it.

All I want is a fair chase today. Not that ridiculous DLS bullshit. Otherwise it should rain all day n we will reach finals anyways. Though it will be mighty unfair to NZ.
Btw, rain prediction which I just checked is from 3pm onwards. So, it is possible we may get a full match.

As both Star Sports 1 and Star Select cost the same, why should one select Star Sports 1? Asking because I watch all of them on Star Sports. Would Star Select have all the matches broadcast on it?

Not all the world cup matches are on Select. Only the matches that India it's playing. There are other sports that are covered only on Star Select channels.

Mostly it looks like NZ will end at 240 thereabout. You mean to say 240 in 50 overs is equivalent to 223 in 40?

I for sure don't understand that calculation!!

And with the kind of start they had, they would have struggled to get 130 in 20 overs if this was a t20. They would have simply ended up losing 5 wickets inside the 6 overs had the game been a t20.
Let's consider yesterday's scenario.

1) Both teams started with a plan for 50 overs. NZ paced their batting for 50 overs and Indian their bowling.

2) After 46 overs, NZ made 209/5 and rain interrupted. 4 more overs available for NZ with 5 wickets in hand. History says teams score more runs in slog overs, more than their run-rate.
(BTW, NZ were 155/3 after 40 overs and 209/5 in 46 overs. So they had made 54 runs in 6 overs, They accelerated from over 40. If the match was only for 46 overs, they would have accelerated much earlier.).

3) Rain went away and play is possible for 46 overs as per remaining hours of play.

4) India gets 46 overs to bat and make 1 more run than NZ to win.

Now, what should be the target for India?

And now a run-out and a good catch by Sir Jadeja.

It must be tough being Manjrekar today!

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

What's happening ? Rohit out and now Kohli given out lbw and being reviewed.
Edit:Kohli out, India reeling at 5-2

Ok, so what are the stats against India in this match ?
Two of them proved (bad for India) yet again..
1. Rohit Sharma doesn't have a great score in the last 20 odd matches versus New Zealand
2. Kohli doesn't do well in knock out games (and single digit scores in 3 world cup finals including today!)

Others:
3. All matches (5 prior to this one) played at Old Trafford during this world cup have been won by team batting first

Any more ?

Edit 2:K L Rahul out, is it goodbye world cup 2019 for India ?

Rahul gone, India staring at defeat. I would love to see Dhoni coming in now instead of Pandya or Karthik. Sad, he is still hiding in dressing room.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Damn!!! We are in trouble!!

Now I think is the time for Indian players to show their class... We filled our team with batsmen, now is their time to deliver. If we win, WC would be ours. If not, then may be we weren't good enough.
