Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Australia managed just 223 all out in 49 overs but credit to Steve Smith and Alex Carey for rebuilding the innings after 3 quick wickets fell. Some rearguard knocks of 20's each by Maxwell and Starc helped them reach 223.

England should be able to win this one, but you never know since chasing hasn't been easy on the English grounds during this world cup. England are 40/0 in 8 overs, if they lose 2-3 wickets quickly, this could get interesting.

England are showing the way it is done!

Dunno, whether English batmen are that good, Aussie bowlers that bad or did we approach the entire thing in panic?

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Another one sided match; courtesy, conditions. ICC needs to see that all teams get equal chance. Disappointed with the way pitches have played and toss has more or less decided the fate of match.

Yesterday also, we lost the momentum since we were playing after a break of whole day. Moisture and conditions ensured that it was not an even contest. The moment sun was out, condition become better for batting.

Extremely bad umpiring. In cases like this, its imperative that the third umpire steps in and does a review.

Ridiculous.

And Australia are nothing but a bunch of cheats. They have learnt nothing from experience and will learn nothing. They pretty much knew that there was nothing on the ball.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Jason Roy's dismissal is a good example to show the absence of common sense in cricket!!
It shows that if rules are 'Always' followed to the T, it is foolish and ridiculous.
England are in a good position so the result may not change, but third umpire should be allowed to overturn such glaring mistakes.

However, I know nothing will happen and Roy himself may be fined for showing dissent

Atleast for me, it's interesting because there will be a new name on the cup. I voted for New Zealand.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

England steamrolled Australia to win in a canter. Happy that the finals will be played by teams who have never managed to win the ICC cricket world cup before So, finally we will indeed have a team winning the world cup for the very first time.

Even before a match was played in this world cup, England were definitely one of the favourites and even expected to score 400+ in some game!

Now, I just hope they live up to that reputation by scoring 330+ in the final and then having new Zealand chase. If NZ manages a win or gets very close, it will then be befitting of a finale in this edition and a treat for viewers and spectators who've been fed so much hype about the possibility of unusually high scores

That is what a video doing the rounds says. Apparently a Tamil astrologer had predicted this months ago. The video shows a lady in a TV talk show asking the astrologer for his predictions on the World Cup. The guy smiles and names 4 semifinalists as India, New Zealand, England and Australia. He says India will be beaten and goes on to say New Zealand will be the cup winners with Kane Williamson being the player of the tournament.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Well played England. Australia just folded like India did. It is very difficult when you lose three of your top four for single digit scores. The added pressure of a semi-final makes it harder. Well played Smith and Carey. Australia's bowling wasn't the best to start off.

I don't care who wins the finals, but I want Martin Guptill to score a double century.

Whatever happens in the finals, I think Al Hasan should be MoT. He's really played out of his skin in this tournament.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

Glad it's not Australia in the finals. It was getting much too predictable with Australia winning all the world cup trophies.

England deserved to be in the finals. They have by far been the best team so far for past one year.

Yes. He did perform with both bat and ball. I think that the advantage that all rounders have.

Since 2015 WC, around 47 players have played for India in ODIs and they couldn't find 2 middle order batsman. But they found wicket keepers, in fact 4 of them played the SF (Dhoni, Karthick, Pant & Rahul).

Kohli is 30 now will definitely play 2023 WC and even 2027 (if he doesn't plan to try his hand in Bollywood).

In this WC, Aus were top heavy like India. Only their 1, 2 & 3 (Warner, Finch & Smith) clicked and with their wicketkeepr offering resistance like Pandya did for India. Once their 3 numbers were blown away, they were sitting ducks.

Quite true.

2015 WC SF, Ind vs Aus: Chasing 329, India were 91/3 and 233 all out. (Kohli scored 1 of 13 balls)

2017 ICC Trophy Final, Ind vs Pak: Chasing 339, India were 33/3 and 157 all out. (Kohli scored 5 of 9 balls).

2019 WC SF, Ind vs NZ: Chasing 240, India were 5/3 and 221 all out. (Kohli scored 1 of 6 balls).

BTW, knives are out in BCCI. After finding no problem in bowling & fielding and finding frequent probloms in batting throughtout the WC, batting coach might face the axe - Sanjay Bangar’s role as batting coach under the scanner after India’s World Cup exit

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019

In this world cup, there seems to be a definite advantage in batting first.

Also, after 2007, the hosts have won all world cups. In the two cases where the world cup was co-hosted, the final was played between the hosts.

Both are not healthy trends for cricket, in my opinion.
