Train to Busan 2 Peninsula : 1 / 5

What a crappy sequel to such an absolutely brilliant movie. Basically the only premise they have in relation to the first movie is the zombies. Nothing else. Part of the movies that involves action scenes clearly showcases extremely bad animation/CGI scenes that look horrible.

Give it a miss.

Confession of Murder

Synopsis - Lee Du-seok publishes an autobiography describing murders he committed after the statute of limitations expires. A detective and one of the victim's mothers search for the author while another killer begins a spree of murders.

In one word - brilliant. They know how to make thriller movies. Wonderful acting as well. I did find the action sequences a bit too much for such a genre but again, very well executed.

Rating - 5/5 (Highly recommended)

I did watch few Janpanese and Chinese movies over the last month and nothing comes close to Korean ones.

Exactly. Train to Busan is one of the best Zombie movies and the sequel just spoiled it.

#ALIVE - 2.5 / 5

This Korean zombie apocalyptic movie set in an urban locale is seemingly highly rated on RottenTomatoes so gave it a shot.

Available on Netflix with English audio and accents as options, it’s a pretty similar zombie construct as other movies and the story of an individual surviving overwhelming odds.

Watch it if you have free time, else this can be missed.

School Days with a Pig - Japanese

The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)-aa.jpg

Synopsis - A teacher and his sixth grade class raise a piglet together.

It's a simple and cute little movie that I really enjoyed. The kids acted really well and expressed their emotions superbly. I also loved the background music.

Cold Eyes (2013) - Korean

The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)-7ae947e95eac4c8d9c03cc2a20246934.jpg

Synopsis - A computer and network surveillance agency attempts to stop a group of criminals from robbing a bank.

Loved it. Pretty good acting by all and some shots reminded me of the action scenes from Extraction (single shot).
Overall, a good watch.

Re: The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)

Hi
Stumbled across this thread and am pleasantly surprised. I did see a few posts suggesting Old boy (2003) the original by director Park Wang chook. I wanted to suggest that Old boy is part 2 of the Vengeance trilogy and all of them are stand alone movies with the vengeance being the theme of all three. The remaining 2 are called Sympathy to Mr. Vengeance and Lady vengeance. I loved all the three and Oldboy is the best among the three. Cheers.

Fantastic recommendations there. Request you all to add the available platform too. I have searching some of the titles in Netflix and they weren’t available.

10 Promises to My Dog (2008) - Japanese

The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)-fdsfsdt.png

Synopsis - A teenage girl adopts a homeless puppy and names it "Socks". They take care of each others since then, until one day when she is thinking Socks to be smaller than she thought it used be.

Nothing new with the storyline here but was a sweet movie. The dog nailed it. Pretty good performance.

Rating - 4/5

The Way Home (2002) - Korean

The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)-l_p0001996203.jpg

Synopsis - Seven-year-old Sang-woo is left with his grandmother in a remote village while his mother looks for work. Born and raised in the city, Sang-woo quickly comes into conflict with his old-fashioned grandmother and his new rural surroundings.

Some fantastic reviews and ratings caught my eye. Should say I expected a lot more but what a beautiful and simple movie. Nothing over the top - just kept it simple and sweet. Just couple of characters and they nailed it.

Pretty amazing if this statement is true:

No Mercy (2010) - Korean

The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)-v1_.jpg

What a movie. Extremely brilliant revenge thriller. Don't want to disclose more. Easily one of the best from Korea.

CAUTION - There are few extremely graphic scenes.

Rating - 5/5

Also, I think a recent Malayalam thriller seems to inspired from this (not the entire story but few aspects).

The Guilty (2018) - Danish:

A slice in the life of a emergency call center responder. Intense crime thriller. Director used the audience's imagination to his advantage.

Burning (2018, Korean)

I have come across this link which has 100 greatest Korean films: https://www.koreanscreen.com/100-gre...n-films-100-51

Burning is at #1 and ahead of Memories of Murder!
The screenplay is a collection of metaphors and the photography is poetic. The movie has 3 main characters and a Schrodinger's cat. I have watched it with my wife on Sunday and we are still discussing about it. We have come to the conclusion that there are way too many metaphors. It is a good movie but Memories of Murder is still my favorite Korean film.

P.S: It is a slow burn.

A Little Princess (2019) - Korean

The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)-a_little_princess_korean_moviep1.jpg

Synopsis - A woman's life takes a turn for the better when she meets her granddaughter for the first time.

More than the storyline, it's the acting that's brilliant especially the young girl and the grandma. Loved the small boy too who supports the young girl. The story isn't something new but it's been put together very well. Although some reviews compare it with "Miracle in cell no 7", I don't think it's that great. Miracle in cell no 7 is in a different league (you need a bag of tissues here).

Rating - 4.5/5
