I happy to note that i am not alone. I wish they played more music and less reality. Reality is hardly real.

Re: Remember when.....

Hi everybody
Remember when an ad film used to cost less than rs 1 crore.
The first to break that barrier was MRF radials
Remember when Iridium launched their phones with one of the finest adlines"Geography is history now".Unfortunately it didnt (or maybe was not allowed to)
gain market share.
Remember when in Bombay Rogers with its 32 flavors of cold drinks used to rule the roost.
Regards

Re: Remember when.....

I watching a song from an old movie, and I saw this...

Now 100 times more people use keyboard, yet nobody learns typing anymore. Does anyone learn shorthand anymore? My uncle had a similar school, but had to shut shop for lack of students.

Remember when.....-song.jpg

Re: Remember when.....

Remember filling air for your cycle tyres at 10 paise at neighborhood cycle repair shop. I have a connected anecdote - a school mate (whom I didn't know earlier) borrowed 10 paise from me after a school day in the cycle shed, since his cycle tyres were deflated, and didn't carry money with him. We started our friendship from that day and till date he is one of my closest pal!

Remember cycling 'kilometers and kilometers' (courtesy a famous Malayalam movie dialogue!) to and fro from school in your Hero, BSA, Hercules cycles? Raleigh brand was considered premium those days -speaking about early 80's.

Remember buying 'gas muttayi' (pronounced 'gyaas' -kerala special mint hard toffee without wrappers) from local 'murukkaan kada' (paan shop) for 5 ps.

Will post more later...

A small correction here. The 'Don't leave home without it' tagline was that of American Express and not SBI.' That was a classic ad created by David Ogilvy of Ogilvy Advertising so please let's give the credit where the credit is due. The same man created another super tagline which has also reached cult/ icon status...'at 60miles an hour, the loudest noise in this new Rolls Royce comes from the electric clock'. This was created for Rolls Royce, the finest motor cars in the world.

Re: Remember when.....

Remember this 2in1 Cassette and Radio? Most people owned this model in the late 70s and early 80s. We still have ours in the old house.

We have the Cassette and Radio player from National (Japanese Import in those days) - they quintessential Red color rectangular plastic box that still works. Have a bunch (about 100+) cassettes all belonging to my father.

And off course we also have the CRT based 14' TV set from Onida which many grandpas still may have at home in smaller cities

Remember when you didn't have to take apart the whole motorcycle to change your headlight bulbs?

Remember when.....-img20190410wa0007.jpg

Just had to rip apart the P220 to change a pair of bulbs.

Re: Remember when.....

Awesome topic. Very nostalgic.

Remember, when (with respect to Bangalore)
- you had to look at buses and strain your eyes to read the destination.
- a masala dosa in Bangalore was Rs. 1.25.
- when you felt thirsty, you could find a hand-pump and drink water from it.
- streets would look deserted when Ramayana and Mahabharat were being aired on Doordarshan.
- take your "friend's" telephone call (on a wired landline phone) amidst a hall full of people at home and try not blush.
- studying with candles and kerosene lamps when there is no electricity.

Oh, man...Nostalgic!

We had ours, this same model and later a chic looking red & white rectangular cassette player of same OEM National Panasonic; listening to papa's cassette collections and "Ceylon radio" -- oh, those were the days!

And I foolishly tried to reverse-engineer this piece plus my grandfather's Favre Leuba watch from 1930's or 40's which looked like a "chuna bowl", somewhat like this--> https://corello.es/watches/favre-leu...eloj-bolsillo/

Both damaged beyond repair, and getting nice "sixers" from papa with the cricket bat!

Also,
- the 80's & 90's kids will invariably remember this :

- and this: how can one forget the simple yet fresh feeling that this one imparts!

- and (apologies if this was brought up earlier) ubiquitous "floppy disks" of various sizes/capacities https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floppy_disk

- and the simple pleasures of:
  • going on endless cycling tours with friends/cousins on one's BSA SLR
  • swimming sessions in the local temple pond or rivulet
  • catching up with books in the intimidating array of titles at British Library or Russian Library when one goes to the "big city" from village

list is endless... as are our journeys!
