If I'm overtaking an HMV, I flash until I have got the driver's attention. And overtake only after the driver has waved. The flash alone works with truck drivers. I need to honk as well for bus drivers.

For cars, I flash and look at the driver's reaction - need to ensure he/she has seen me. 4-5 young people in a car usually means no attention to the rear view mirror.

For bikes, I almost always honk in addition to the flash. I give bikes extra width since I don't want the wind affecting them when I pass (used to be a biker so know the feeling).

In all cases, before the overtake, I use my right indicator and while being parallel to the vehicle, I turn on my left indicator and that stays on until I have come back to the lane in front of the vehicle.

1) Honking
Yes. During the day time, it's essential to warn other road users.

2) Headlamp Flash / Turn indicators
Yes. If the horn isn't enough, these are put to use. During the night, extremely essential. Turning indicators are used most of the time - day or night.

3) Verbally abusing the slower driver.......
Rickshaws and taxis that don't move out of the way and hold me up for a long time are showered with these. If my car's AC is on, they are lucky.

4) Any other (please mention)
Sometimes, a show of the clenched fist or the middle finger is put to use.
Likely candidates - people who purposely block or cut across wildly.

Flash if it is night, Honk based on the level of confidence. If the guy has willingly given way then no honking, a lot of it must have already been done to get stubborn guys out of the way.

Honking - during day time

Headlamp Flash - during nights

Verbally abusing - Yeah in my mind sometimes...

Other - Sometimes overtaking the vehicle from left side if vehicle is moving slow in the right lane and get in front the press the break paddle hard enough to teach lesson the the slow moving driver coz of whom alot of people have to break traffic rules OR sometimes get in front of the slow moving vehicle and slow the speed to such extent that he need to change to lower gear.. .. This happens like once in a blue moon

voted for the first three and believe me this does'nt work (even on the xpressway there are some jerks who drive on the RH Side and give u a dirty look when u overtake them). on occasions also give a gentle "HUL" to the slowpoke or road hog if he/she does'nt respond to 1 and 2.

Honk Twice . Have a look at the rear view mirror , If there is any car waiting to overtake me I use the signals to warn them that am changing my lane to overtake . IF its a fast overtake in the night I use the signals+ Flash my headlights+Honk to enter a lane too to make sure the bus guys see that there is a car entering the lane right in front.

Well I have tried driving without honking as an experiment for 14 days. It was definitely not a nice experience. The only thing that works here is HONKING - LOUDLY at that too. period.

Its Honking during the day and Headlamp Flash + strobes at night....

On long trips it becomes hard to do it everytime so sometimes its a look at the RVM n fast overtaking.....

Honking very essential during day, but does not help much in city traffic.

Honking + Headlight flashes works well in the night on highways.
