Many parts of India are in curfew

Janata Curfew declared across India - On 22 March from 7 am to 9 pm.

Good step!

Edit - Corrected now - Thanks. Seems to be a pilot to prepare for a continued run of the same.

It is an exercise for just March 22nd to check the response levels.

Good move none the less.
Hopefully we see this crisis tide over sooner than later

It is just a readiness to test the endurance, patience and mental strength of our countrymen.

Irrespective of each of our political affiliation, we must try this out because not any religion or any political party or any sports team, it is the HUMAN RACE must emerge victorious in these testing times.

It was nice way to pass the message that get ready for the real thing if things go beyond control.

Re: The Coronavirus thread

Good but I would have thought the sooner, the better. Saturday, extend to Sunday. And be prepared. Oh man!

Why no additional stimulus? No announcements of testing on a war effort?

True. Its good that India is getting a chance to test this out instead of having to enforce this in desperation.

Re: The Coronavirus thread

It's the most prudent move by the GOI since the war of 1971. It is a well calculated move to involve all the citizens and make behavioral changes to fight the enemy.

People will freak out and will not heed the advise if there is a prolong lockout. But, testing water on sunday will give the GOI a clear perspective to design the future course of action. As stated by the PM, it is a drill just like the good old days. The real thing will come as the curve climbs steeper.

Another aspect is the 5 PM alarm to harness the community into unified whole. I really hope this will be a mega success and we will show a thing or two to the Western world. Already the western media is in awe of the success of Asian countries in stopping the spread of pandemic, it is time they take note of how the catastrope need to be tamed.

There is a subtle message of the impending lockdown post Sunday. The message to business community to take it lightly, the absence of employee shows that the nation is getting ready for the worse.

Re: The Coronavirus thread

Very strategic move. Kudos to the planners in the government.
Hopefully people will respect this instruction, and encourage others to do the same.

Re: The Coronavirus thread

I was thinking how one can help re-trace his movements in the last 15 days and one idea quickly flashed in my head : Google's location history

Almost all of us are using Android/Apple devices, they keep a track of our location everyday. If anyone starts showing coronavirus symptoms, he should immediately share that location history with concerned people (I am not sure if it is being implemented already)

One more thing that concerns me is why news channels are not disclosing the exact location of newly detected cases, for example, there is one more case detected in Pune, but nobody is telling where in Pune : Eastern side or Western side. Another rumor that came in today morning via our maids that a new case has been detected in our vicinity, so we are not sure if its the one shown on TV or not. I and my family is going to stay indoors anyway for the next few weeks, but we will run out of vegetables soon and I don't want to go anywhere near the infected area to buy stuff.

On a lighter note, my dad is having existential crisis because of this curfew, he can't meet his friends at his usual park and restaurants, he is done with forwarding all inspirational quotes and jokes on whatsapp already, he does not watch a lot of movies or TV serials, bored with all Corona virus related news and he has to sit at home alone with his wife

My mother is in hospital in a fairly critical state. I travel up and down to the hospital several times each day. Is such travel also banned? Would any member know.

AFIK Janata Curfew is not enforced and a voluntary one, it is a request to stay indoors. Only possibility of trouble is by zealot citizen enforcement, which I presume can be over come given your legitimate need for travel.

Wishing your mother a speedy recovery.

Given the tense situation and public propensity to get over-zealous, it would probably make sense to use your beater car, if you aren't doing it already.
