Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

Patrol Boat River, like the one Jeremy used in Grand Tour

I think everyone's approaching the problem in a wrong way, the place you want to be is not land, but sea, So I'll be using a Patrol Boat along with a small kayak to take me to land to do regular foraging for food or fuel or whatnot.

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

Well, first and foremost has to be reliable, easy to repair (Jugaad) and has to be a diesel-
1- First Gen Mahindra Scorpio, no electronics, purely mechanical, no issue of ECU getting fried
2- Bolero LX 4wd
3- Isuzu D max
4- Toyota Fortuner (First Gen)
5- Last but not the least - the Gypsy (if I need to ditch the diesel)

I was just about to post my vote for the Unimog..definitely a vehicle for the apocalypse/near apocalyse!!

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

My take on this problem would be that whatever vehicle I choose it has to be human powered. In an apocalyptic situation, I wouldn't imagine either electricity supplies or fuel stations to work, so, no point getting saddled with a fancy behemoth that cannot move.

I'd much rather have a top notch light-weight Mountain Bike, and/or a small light-weight Sail Boat. I would drop anchor at the edge of the continental shelf for the night, and venture inland with my bike for foraging etc. After all how much fish can one eat, every single meal? Plus you need to find fresh water.
In terms of kit, I'd want a cross-bow, a good long knife, a fishing rod, fishing net amongst other knick knacks.

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

Interesting thread.. my choices:

1. VCross - 4x4, spacious with great space for camping, etc. Frugal diesel, reliable.
2. Toyota Landcruiser - 80, 100 series - mechanical, reliable, spacious, 4x4
3. Already have - Grand Vitara - can do some of the above in case of emergency.

The above list is limited to India offerings and currently available new or pre-owned.

Wish-list - New Defender 110.

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

Toyota Lancruiser 7x series with the 1HZ engine.

Reasons:
1. It's a Toyota
2. Refer reason #1
3. Super reliable straight 6 NA diesel
4. Devoid of too many electronics (transfer case and diff locks aren't controlled by buttons)
5. Immense Mod potential

Mods: (won't go too fancy)
1. Extra fuel tank and spare tires
2. Snorkels and extended diff-breathers
3. Enough sleeping space for a couple + 1-2 kids
4. Probably an added battery pack for electricity needs
5. BONUS: Flotation devices and outboard motor

Here's a visual treat:

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

I would probably head to sea myself.

But speaking of such doomsday preppers, I'm reminded of the launch of one of my favourite Austrians. There's only one thing on wheels that instantly (and weirdly) appealed to me as something I would bring home for an apocalypse, only for an apocalypse, the moment I first laid eyes on it.

KTM 1290 Super Adventure
May not be able to lug a full household on its back, neither does it offer much in terms of cager like protection against grimy zombie paws...but it sure would be a fun way to outrun them.
Mods: Loud Akropovic pipes to raise hell and scare them away.

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

This is an interesting thread. I've always been intrigued by Expedition/Apocalypse vehicles.
If money no bar then it has to be the SLRV Commander 8x8. But more realistically, a auctioned Army truck with a custom body would be easily doable in a price bracket of a little over something you would spend on a top variant Innova.
This topic got me working on something of my own- a Ashok Leyland Stallion 6x6 with a custom container module. Pardon the PS skills.

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

Amazing cars recommended above in the thread.

My apocalypse ready car will be something on the lines of the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, modified with all the essential survival kit. (Images attached below)

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

For me it would be my Force Gurkha, just bought it but yet to take delivery due to the lockdown.
The rugged nature of the vehicle, simple mechanical's and bulletproof engine along with low range gears help in traversing the landscape, roads or no roads doesn't matter.

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

I think Im all set. Probably need to upgrade to a larger fuel tank. Of all the cars I've owned and driven the LR is the most confidence-inspiring for anything to do with getting off the tarmac. Especially in winter. Which means I will have to swap back to my winter tyres.

Re: Your Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle!

In an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic world, fuel refineries wouldn't function efficiently. Even if they did, the fuel can't be distributed through tankers to each and every fuel pump. I assume that fuel and electricity might eventually cease to be supplied from the grid. Considering the above,
