re: India on full lockdown. Edit: Now extended with relaxations till June 30, 2020

The rate at which cases are increasing is extremely worrisome, if you compare with Italy and USA, they were at our stage on March 6 and March 12 respectively. And in 15 days the cases exploded. If we don't start testing more people the outlook looks bleak. If the lockdown was effective we should have seen new cases coming down, but instead it is increasing everyday. If we go the way of Italy or USA, then that may be the end of normal life for a lot a families.

Italy or USA had not imposed (US still hasn't imposed) the kind of national lockdown at that time, the way we have. So there is some hope that while we may still be peaking, our peak won't be as bad as those of the other countries. Then again, not all parts of the country are uniformly affected. However, during any partial lift up, its the rural areas that need to be focused on better. In the urban confines of the metropolitan centres , there is only so much that will happen with the strict containment zones in place.

Khandala to Mahabeleshwar for a family resident in Mumbai does not sound like a family medical emergency. Never heard of a medical emergency requiring 4 high end SUVs. Not only had this officer grossly misused his position he has also, most probably, lied in writing.

I wonder what his " friendship" with DHFL is all about. DHFL as you know is infamous for its recent financial adventures.

From the frying pan into the fire. I hope the MH Govt goes full tongs against this IPS worthy. It will be interesting to discover the underlying causes of his love for the Wadhawans.

re: India on full lockdown. Edit: Now extended with relaxations till June 30, 2020

Went out to get a canister of drinking water. A couple of roads, a little distance away from mine have been blocked. One main road seems to have been blocked using barriers. Not sure if it's because of cases there or just to restrict the movement of vehicles.

A little further away, noticed that one densely-inhabited section of a locality seems to have been sealed off. There were a group of 4-5 people in white lab coats and face masks talking to some local residents outside the barriers.

At another street, there were a couple of men brandishing sticks and chasing street fruit vendors. Not sure if they were authorities or just some local toughs. Hard to tell when everyone is covering their faces with cloth these days!

Long lines outside shops again. The situation had normalized after the initial panic of the lock down. Now looks like people are going to panic buy again because they expect a longer and stricter lock down and who can blame them.

On so many premium private Mumbai hospitals becoming ‘containment zones’, am i the only one who finds it a bit strange and odd?

Some bits don't add up.

The news article says some of that party had active non-bailable CBI warrants against them since March (date not specified), so why were they even out of custody at all?

Are we to believe these people only got caught due to their own and an accomplice bureaucrat's stupidity, and would've been free otherwise (and probably escaped the country when an opportunity arose)?

Can't find the link now but Karnataka CM after meeting has confirmed PM Modi has agreed to extend nationwide lockdown for 2 more weeks and official announcement by him will be made tomorrow via nation address. All rules regarding lockdown will also be stated tomorrow.

Did not understand the point you are trying to imply. Please could you elaborate. It is very useful and safe to have a good hospital within a containment zone as it is expected that some more new positive cases will come up and better to treat them within the zone.

I hope they consider sector by sector and lift lockdown. If people can travel by bike or car, factory like establishments can function. Also with mechanical automation, there could be lots of industries which can function without much people density.

He is talking about Wockhardt hospital incident in Mumbai. The whole hospital was closed and contained due to poor protection and isolation practices. Huge number of nurses and doctors were infected. These cases reflect why cases are so high in Mumbai.
