Asterix creator Albert Uderzo dies at 92

The French comic book artist, who created the beloved Asterix comics in 1959 with the writer René Goscinny, died on Tuesday. He “died in his sleep at his home in Neuilly from a heart attack unrelated to the coronavirus. He had been very tired for several weeks,” his son-in-law Bernard de Choisy told AFP.

Re: Asterix creator Albert Uderzo dies at 92

R.I.P. He brought laughter into the lives of many. At an especially difficult time in my life when it felt everything I'd built would collapse I would curl up with an Asterix or Tintin and escape from the world. My children who were still children then found this quite amusing because they'd never seen me reading their comic books.

I've spent my childhood reading Tintin and Asterix's adventures, still do!

R.I.P. Albert Uderzo, your iconic creations have etched your name forever in history :(

RIP. I have read and admired his works along with tintin and indrajal comics. Present gen kids don't seem to admire the subtle comedy or patriotic flavour in Astrix comix. Gaming and tv have taken over.

A charioteer named "Coronavirus" was featured in one of their Comics! You have to hand it to Goscinny & Uderzo for planting so many easter-eggs in the Asterix series. You can keep looking down the ages and still find something relevant and amusing!

Asterix and Obelix alongwith the entire Gaul and their adventures have been my favourites since childhood. I read them even now and I have most of the animated series.

Asterix and Obelix brought many many joyful hours to me, still do. The word play and language use is still unparalleled. A real loss for all comic lovers.

Am sure he is happy in the great big party up there. As always my favorite part of the comic.

I have always been a huge fan of the Asterix series. Great comic! Just outside of Paris there is an Asterix and Obelix theme park. I remember taking our kids there once. They loved it and have been fans ever since too.

RIP Albert.

Re: Asterix creator Albert Uderzo dies at 92

I was around 10 when I laid my hands on a cousins copy of Asterix (Asterix and son) and the visual content blew my mind at a time when Tinkle was the benchmark. It was much later that I started understanding the funny name references and the geo-political backdrops that made me appreciate the series in a completely different light. RIP Albert.
