Another flipkart return fail here.

Ordered a phone last week, which turned out defective. It was purchased under an exchange scheme and balance payment was only about Rs.2000. Flipkart picked up the faulty phone just a day back but has refunded the exchange amount in the wallet!

Been trying to contact them to get it back to my bank but unsuccessful so far. Tweeting only gets a call or two but nothing happening. What should we do next, don't want to keep that money blocked in FK. Pretty sure, I won't be buying anything from them in the future.

We (meaning me and the wife) have been vocal proponents of online shopping, right from the days Flipkart started off as a book seller back in 2007. Though Flipkart seems to have lost the plot somewhere along the way, as long as you select good buyers and know what you are purchasing, Amazon delivers a very safe experience.

We have made quite a few high-value purchases online including but not limited to iPhones (twice), top end HTC's and Samsungs (four times at least), household goods such as a Daikin AC, mixers and grinders etc. Barring one exception (quoted later on in the post), each time the delivery was as promised, and none of the items purchased were fake or tampered with or used. In fact the iPhones are still currently in use after two years, and the Daikin is into its fifth year. Like someone already said, in the smaller towns and cities, there is no access to good brands, be it clothes, consumer or household goods, and once you factor in the savings, online portals are a win-win situation for people from such places. Not to mention sites like Hopscotch offer beautiful and quality merchandise at a cost that you will be hard-pressed to match even at the biggest retailers in the metros.

Also, though I do concede that returning a purchase ought to be the last resort and takes the happiness away from the experience, return policies are needed, and in my experience Amazon are truly way ahead on this count. Like I said earlier the only time I had a major problem with an online purchase was when I bought a PS4 (@ Rs.36,500/-) earlier this year from Amazon. The console package itself was new, not tampered with and in mint condition, but there were two free game Blurays which the seller apparently forgot to include with the pack. I had to arrange to return ship since Amazon doesn’t have pick-up at my location, but true to their word, they reimbursed the full shipping charges (over Rs.2000/-) along with full refund of the purchase and an additional Rs.100/- as a token of apology, all in less than five days from the date I returned the item.

I feel that as long as you choose the right portal and seller, do not fall for an offer that’s too good to be true, and really know what you are getting into, online shopping can be a safe and happy experience. More choices means more power for the consumer, ultimately.

This is news to me. Have they made these changes in their return policy?

Yes they have stopped refunds for electronics as there was widespread misuse with people sending defective items/claiming empty boxes sent to them etc.

I was trying buy some item from Ebay India. while sign page is secure with padlock sign and https, the payment page where card details are keyed in was not showing any padlock or https. Browser is mentioning that website is insecure.
Tried in different browsers like IE, Opera, Firefox, Chrome and in different PC's also. It is same.
Immediately checked with amazon/snapdeal in the same browser. The payment page shows padlock sign and https
Spoke with Ebay customer care, they are telling it is fine at their end.
Has anyone else noticed it?

I ordered allow wheel centre cap for my Figo from AliExpress. While ordering I noticed that I wasn't asked to input my password for completing the credit card payment:Frustrati. Basically, as soon as I provided my card details and submitted it after entering the 3 digit code, I got a message that the payment has been accepted. Is that the standard behaviour in AliExpress?

For all the payments made in non INR currency, credit cards do not require the pin authentication.

I always use the one time credit card generation features of my cards for such transactions. I use Axis bank cc and for each purchase I can generate a new card number that expires in 24 hrs or one use.

What is the URL displayed in the payment page. Also post a screenshot if possible.
I will also check as I need to buy something from eBay this weekend.

It's probably the 3rd party applications like anti-virus which is 'analysing' your secure traffic. I have seen something like this with avast. Other virus scanners do the same. I would suggest to uninstall these applications and use Microsoft Defender.

Iam using Microsoft defender only. There are no other antivirus in my PC.
In the same PC, i do not face this issue with Amazon/Flipkart/Billdesk/Snapdeal/Paytm. Only with Ebay.

It was same even in my laptop with defender

The sign in page is secure with green padlock sign.
Payment page does not show green padlock sign. In addition bowser says part of the content is not secure

I see the root cause of the problem now. Ebay is offering Ola Money as a payment option, but its logo (http://p.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/in/charity/OlaMOney.jpg) is loaded from a non-secured web server. You can choose to ignore this, or report this to Ebay via their security center (http://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/).

Chrome is nowadays quite anal about non-secured content being loaded into secured web pages.

Slightly off-topic but enjoyed an excellent experience with ekartcourier, Flipkart's brand new courier service. This was between Bengaluru and Kolkata.

1. Package (containing cloth material weighing around 800 grams IIRC) was picked up from home within 2 hours of logging a request online
2. Was professionally weighed and packed (ekartcourier branded waterproof packet) in front of me
3. Rates were reasonable but only cash payment as of now
4. Last but not the least, delivered promptly with June 5 (pick-up at 1304) and June 7 (today at 0900)
5. Tracking service was also spot-on.

Thanks Binand for the clarification. Not only Chrome, opera, firefox and explorer gave similar warning. While browsing even https:// is not visible. Only order2.ebay appears.
