Thanks for the information. Those are some seriously unacceptable policices. It's a shame how even the supposedly 'world class' customer centric company shows its dirty side where the customer friendly laws are non-existent.

I guess its bye-bye online shopping for me for anything worth more than 1k, esp. electronic items. I guess shopping on good old eBay is better.

In terms of Electronic items, Mobiles etc., Flipkart is better. They don't ask you to go to the Service Centre, rather send a product specialist to your Home or Office.

Lenovo and Amazon played a Cat and Mouse game with me. Lenovo doesn't issue DOA and Amazon wants it. The product was MOTO.

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Not sure if this is the right place to share my query but here goes.

I have listed my Sunny for sale on OLX. I have got an identical message from 3 different people now over the span of last 3-4 days, matching my asking price and asking for my contact details for further discussion. The first time I shared my contact details but no one called after that. The second and third time I have asked them to mail me instead or give me their number so that I can call. My question is regarding safety of my phone number and contact details. Is it safe to share them over olx? I am pretty sure now that this is some sort of scam/spam messages since all 3 messages are exactly identical word to word but only sent by a different person each time. What will one achieve by doing so? Also how do you sell your car online without sharing your details once a person shows interest in your vehicle?

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

I bought a new torch (Nitecore SRT3) from Lightmen a few days ago, then placed a further order for the relevant charger and a spare battery. I spoke to the guy (yes, I think it is a small company, in the best way) on the phone before ordering to confirm that my chosen model did not come with battery. He recommended the battery to buy, but neither of us thought of chargers. Anyway, I'd still rate them for personal service with a smile --- in the form of a handwritten card with each order. And, by the way, I love the torch, but now I have the desire to buy more high-price LED stuff; at least one more torch for the car. Also: Amazed at within-24-hours door-to-door Hyderabad to Chennai.

Bought a car cover from Thp Covers (post). They quoted 20 days delivery and it arrived in four.

Now for a wait and see... Anyone hear ever tried Massdrop? I first heard of it from audio fora, but have found it strangely untempting. Today, though, I fell for iFixit Universal Bit Kit. The total, including the outrageous delivery charge, is about the same as iFixit's RRP. Let us hope that it arrives without undue delay, damage or customs charges.

Ohmygod, I just spent US$100 on screwdrivers!

What does the message say? Quikr olx have done templates for people to send. Typically people use those.

Edit:Corrected.
Same message, then it might auto portals trying to get through.

What is a baggage? These are not templates as all 3 messages quoted the exact same price. They are identical messages.

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Any reviews about www.dx.com - just came across it and was finding the price quite good for some deals. Has anyone used it before? Reviews on it would be really appreciated. Thank you.

I'm amazed to see that I got credited for two referrals! Must be something in that link that registers that it was I who was logged in, I guess. Anyway, happy shopping! No personal gain was expected or intended but cheers

Always been a gadget lover. In my childhood there was something called Innovations catalogue that used to arrive in the post regularly. I greeted it with enthusiasm, but usually found it disappointing. Massdrop is much the same. It looks as if it should be full of things that fill me with desire, but actually... isn't. Also, very much made for the American market, which reflects in the despatch charges.

For anyone interested in torches, I posted a review of my Nitecore SRT3 here on.

DealExtreme or dx is reliable. I have used it a few times and found it to be more reliable and easier to use than Aliexpress although the selection is lesser. Their goods ship from Singapore

Thank you for the info, do they deliver the product or they take time like Aliexpress?

@Dr Mohit, sharing your number on olx should not be a problem. There must be a way to contact each other. However, in this case, the concern would be the messages, and matching your asking price. Looks fishy.

On another note, related to sharing numbers: We dont know how much of our information is already out there. We keep hearing of sale of personal information regularly. Compared to that, this is almost nothing.

Why risk it? You can get a pre-paid SIM for about a hundred rupees, activated within a few hours - use one such.

There have been scams where people who list vehicles on online portals have been cheated out of them. The scamsters take the vehicle for a test drive, and never return. Have heard of many instances in Bangalore.

The one time I sold a vehicle, I just drove it into a Maruti True Value store. A few thousands less than the street price, but a lot safer. See if an established used car dealership in your city works for you (at least, have them do an assessment).

It's a watch from Hongkong through EMS valued at $50.
Any idea about further details as in how much time will it take more?
In case of customs duty, how do i pay, whether i pay the time of delivery at home or in advance in mumbai?

Suggest to just wait it out a littl more. If a duty has to be paid, you will get a notice with details on where/ how to pay. Dont hurry, and try to quicken the delivery.

Wait for at least 10-15 working days before you raise a complaint. Usually thats how many days they take to clear stuff. Surprisingly, I had ordered an action camera shipped through netherlands post and this time, Bangalore customs cleared it within a day. Not sure why they are so unreliable. Maybe it is because of the loads or depends upon their mood.

Worst case you dont get it, raise a complaint in pgportal.gov.in or tweet the department of posts. There is a discrimination done by customs between EMS and the private services. Gati, DHL clear customs within no time and they dont even mention in their status about customs clearance. Though DHL does charge you extra processing fees in case customs duty is paid, GATI has not charged me a single penny till date. When it comes to EMS like China post, HK Post etc, they seem to be given the last priority and cleared as and when they wish to.

And regarding customs duty, if there is anything to be paid, the postman comes with a receipt indicating the amount and the processing fees which is payable to the postman. Hence, no worries of having to visit the customs office personally. On the other hand, the customs duty calculation is again flawed. I have been charged customs duty once for the same product, and during a repeat order there was no duty charged, though it was the same identical product with same invoice value. Totally absurd system.
