Default Archival footage of Delhi traffic from the late 90s

Magnificent broadcast quality footage of an average road in Delhi and the traffic. What seemed ordinary back then, seems fascinating today. The year seems to be just around 1998 (?).

Maruti 800s, Zens, Esteems, Cielos, Citys and even an occassional import or two. Along with the ubiqtious Ambassador and Padmini.

I enjoy trawling through YouTube to find 70s, 80s and 90s video footage of Indian streets and WildFilmsIndia is a great source.

Enjoy!

Wow. Makes me feel old!

There is a very high mix of cielo in there. I had an opportunity to own one in 2004 (second hand) and was mesmerised with the amount of buttons it had A lot more comfortable than the Esteem. Note: hardly any Astras and Mahindra Ford Escorts (incidentally these were all tractors brands amalgamated in one car, or that's what I thought )

What is fascinating is seeing majority of the people wearing helmets, not sure where we lost the common sense in between.

If I remember right, Delhi had mandated helmet rule for the pillion rider in 1996-97 itself. And the enforcement was also pretty strict.

Look at the number of folks on Chetak, the symbol of the middle class family men at that time.. Truly mesmerized to watch this in 2020!.

Bajaj Chetak & LML Vespa are distinctive and good looking two-wheelers. Gearless scooters these days all look alike!

I recall owning Bajaj Cub and then Chetak. My neighbors had Vespa and another one had Bajaj Priya. I liked LML Vespa back then. Started my driving with Chetak. Remembering those good old days as I type this.
