If we were a nation of whiners, we wouldn't have chess wizards by the dozen and golfers and shooters. Heck, we wouldn't have won 7 hockey golds. Our cricketers can't even stomach performance-based contracts. They're fat leeches, living off our hopes.
Hey, When was the last time India won gold ... mmmmmm -- oops way before we were even born I guess . Or when did we have a world class shooter ... mmmmm -- oops u mean Rathore ??? and for golf .... I didnt know Tiger Woods was Indian , or maybe his great grand dad was Indian ...

Strange how I dont remember .... and fat leeches , living of our hope --- how does our hope and their leeches connect ?? Watch it like a game .. and support them wether they are up or wether they are down .. and if you think they are leeches -- stop buying products that they endorse . As simple as that ... but NO , you will sit and cry coz there is nothing else you can do .

Its a game dude ... the win some and they lose some -- and so what if they lose all ??? I still wud support them ..

U dont like them .. so stop watching them -- go watch ur indian golfers and chess players , and u said hockey also -- go watch them !!!

As for 413 , its against bermuda so big deal but then it could get their bats swinging against teh Lankans as well . WHo knows ??

True India was in trouble, but a player like Ganguly when set against a weak bowling attack like Bangladesh, should have no problems increasing the scoring rate to more than a run a ball. The problem with our senior players is that they are looking to play slowly and get to a 50 first, no matter how long it takes (Tendulkar 7 of 26 *****; Rahul Dravid 14 of 28 ***** -- not good enough against Bangladesh). Then they would like to speed up, once their personal scores are respectable; the problem with this "me first" attitude is that if you get out after scoring slowly, you become a liability to the team. Yuvraj at least was respectable -- 47 off 58 *****.

I hope Greg Chappell makes it clear to the players that against the likes of Sri Lanka or Australia or SA, anything less than a run a ball is a huge liability. Even 300 cannot be considered a winning total, given our weak bowling attack.
With the current form that most of our batsmen are in and past scores, its best to say that the strategy that ganguly applied was best same applies with dravid , sachin and the rest of the above mentioned guys .. Its wise to play out a few overs (against these minnows) to get a feel of the ball hitting the middle of the bat .. That is what gives confidence not trying to slog every ball for a run .. Just the confidence that you are able to hit the ball at the centre of the bat , the feeling of putting your feet right to the pitch of the ball is something that an ordinary person sitting behind the box cant understand .. Yes it doesnt make viewing exciting , but thats what one dayers has turning out to be these days .. Chasing 300 runs seems as easy as having a pie ..

Like khaadu said its just a game , sometimes you win sometimes you loose .. It doesnt happen only in cricket but the best of games as well .. For eg : France got relegated in the 1st round of the WC after being the champions at the previous round .. Real Madrid has the most star studded team , that doesnt mean they OUGHT to win every match they set foot on ..

Also one must understand that watching it on a television and commenting on how a particular batsmen or bowler should have played is easy .. What counts is when you are in their shoes .. It aint as easy as its made out to be .. As enthusiasts enjoy the game and appreciate the side that played better not start flaming our own players just because we cant stand a loss ..

I seriously doubt who agarkar plays for. sometimes, he is brilliant & most times he is brilliant for the opposition. How is that possible ?? how can you switch to such extremes after playing 200 odd games ?

Woah! smashing a car every 5 minutes is another thing altogether. Why would you always want to drive on the pavement. Ok , you were blown one day & didnt know what was happening & did that. what about the next day ? would you do the same thing unless something is seriously wrong with you ?

Khaadu, India has more billionaires than Japan or China, the most in the US. Our golfers are also no 1 in Asia. That's what I meant.

I don't watch cricket. Haven't in years. I just resent my TV time being taken!

BTW: No one has answered my question yet. Why can't India have a winning streak or a winning record like Australia or South Africa?

By your yardstick, only test cricketers can criticize test cricketers, since everybody else would be armchair critics. A combined total of 87 runs of 183 deliveries from our senior "stars", Ganguly, Tendulkar and Dravid, against, of all teams, Bangladesh. Anybody with half a brain can see what's wrong with that performance, in a one-day match, mind you. There are probably dozens of young playes in India who would have done better than that against Bangladesh -- the sad case of Mohammed Kaif comes to mind. In fact I would go so far as to say that this performance calls for an investigation by the anti-corruption unit of ICC, just like Pakistan was investigated after losing to Bangladesh in the WC (and with Wasim Akram commenting that "We are happy to lose to our brothers").

Our senior "stars" are more bothered about their personal scores, averages, endorsements, their places -- the team be damned. They put the younger players like Dhoni and Yuvraj under tremendous pressure with their irresponsible and utterly incompetent batting.

By the way, did anybody notice that Bermuda won the toss and put India in to bat? I wonder why? Had they batted first, that would have given India no chance to amass a big score. Does anybody know what would have been the scenario if India had batted second and chased a small target? Would they still be in the reckoning?

OOh and when did we won the world cup last! Talking about shooting, its very clear whatever Mr. Rathore achieved was on his own and due to sheer hard work, ispite of not having the best of facilities and the aggregates. Dude, no. 1 golfer in ASIA is an Indian, looking at the no. and state of golf courses here, its an achievement in itself.
Besides what facilities have we given to the hockey players, hockey was never as big as cricket even in its prime. Now some hard facts, Holland has 32 astro turfs for player to play on, while indian for all its size has just 4-5 and that too without adequate facilities. I remember once b/w a hockey match, the lights went off stopping the match for a considerable amount of time.

P.S We are having a discussion here and sarcasm in your post could surely have been avoided.

I am not blaming cricketers for it..... the public is equally to be blamed. Giving any a demi god status after he hits a centuary on a dead pitch full of runs where even a tail ender would have toungue out is plain stupid.
What better example of our hypocracy than the state of women cricket in india.... the lesser said the better. Accept this for a fact... cricket is larger than life, and is given more importance than it deserves and results dont make me believe otherwise.

Guys. Don't go off-topic here. If someone has an opinion, hear them out. Everyone doesn't have to agree to everything.

Keep this thread for what if was started for. Not for getting personal!

The question was NO.1 in the world and not just Asia .. theres a huge diff in that itself . India wins gold medals at the Aisad but nothing at the Olympics . As for Mr. Rathore - and ur No1 golfer , these are both individual events which is whole diff ball game when compared to a team game . For that matter India has won a gold in football also , and if you wonder when that happened -- A LONG TIME AGO

As Rtech said , the topic here was the Cricket World Cup ... and the Men in Blue that was being discussed . All I was saying was that just one loss doesnt mean the public starts going berserk , it just shows our frame of mind . Last WC , kaifs hopuse got ransacked , after that we went on to the reqach the FINALS . This time ppl go after Dhonis house -- What sense does that make ??

As for them making loads of moolah and they dont deserve it ... well there are a lot of us out there who make a lot more moolah than they should be making , so why single them out . I said earlier as well , if you guys think that they dont deserve all that , just stop buying products they endorse -- once u do that it automatically will mean less for them as no company is going to spend if they not benefitting . But you and I know that aint gonna happen so why complain ?

As for facilities ... lets not even talk about it !! Its an entire process and it takes time to develop and nurture .. nothing happens overnite . Comparing Holland to India is not possible , as they are at a diff level and we at a diff level . The Govt there doesnt have to think of a million hungry ppl -- the politicions there arnt busy filling their own pockets -- etc etc etc .

All I say is ... Cheer ur team , no matter what they go thru !! If u ever played any sport even at school level you will realise what pressure can do , so imagine what pressure they playing under !!!

GO INDIA GO ...............
