My beaters -
Creative Muvo 20 for Sony MCH-GZR888DA
Oneplus 5T for Samsung Note 10
Suzuki Swish for Dominar 400
and typical for any guy wearing spectacles - a cheaper one for an expensive one

Ha ha true that. In India further downgraded cloth is thrown as downtrodden one for washing floors. Some super natural humans use it to wash their million rupee car too. :D

I don't have a beater car. The car I have itself is one which some people buy as a beater! I have a bike which I use as one. All my watches are beaters, I don't have expensive ones. But currently I use an inexpensive Casio digital watch and an old Moto G3 phone as beaters whenever going out, so that I can freely clean them with sanitizer every time.

I think all my clothes apart from office wear will qualify as beaters. And this is by design! Almost all my shirts are as close to black as possible so that its easy to (mis)use and maintain. That one ink dot on a white shirt would ruin the rest of my day!stupid:
Being one of the youngest in my generation in my family, I am the custodian of a lot of hand-me-down laptops (almost always Acer for some reason) and phones. Depending on the agenda and mode of travel, I always prefer to take one of the beater laptops or phones (currently a Nokia 8110 and Mi A1 to save my ageing BlackBerries from scars) if I am not sure of the luggage handlers or safety of the location. Hopefully a car will be handed to me as a beater some day. lol:.
In watches, there is a battle-scarred HMT along with an old Timex which I usually use if I am not confident enough to take care of the others in my precious collection.

  • Is supremely reliable (Samsung should learn a thing or two from OP on reliability)
  • Is very service friendly (changed my battery from OP dealer for 1200 bucks)
  • Can still hold-up in a fight in todays 40-50K range phones (it came with a 6 GB RAM, SD 801 I think)
  • Has known limitations (Camera sucks big time)

It is very very reliable as I've been using mine now for tha past 3.5 years, hats off to OP.
Even I changed the battery of my 3T, although they charged me about 2000 something for it, I guess because of the T. A slight correction, OP 3 has SD820. And for the camera limitation, there is a workaround, you can install the Gcam app from XDA.

I have a set of daily beaters.

1. Swatch Irony from 2003. 5 cracks on the glass, still works fine.
2. Crocs Swiftwater except for Work- Rain or shine it's the true beater.
3. KZ ATE OTE earphones- from Aliexpress (purchased before Atma Nirbhar Bharat :))
4. 85' Suzuki SS80- Drives like a charm in the city
5. Venus N95 masks

The ultimate beater watch, the G-Shock DW-5600

Have done this, but there is very limited improvement from Stock app. Is your experience much better than stock app with GCAM? Is there a specific version you are using?

You can never go wrong with a pair of unistar jogging shoes. I go for jogs early in the morning and from late may to late september, Bangalore gets quite wet and the roads get drained with mud and garbage until the BBMP folks clear them (I'm ever grateful to them :)).

I can go jogging with these pair of shoes when the ground is soiled or dirty without risking damage to my regular pair of shoes.

On a lighter note have they helped you get fitter / lighter. :D
I stopped after Mi Band 1 and then 2. I wasn't getting lighter (felt guilty as well on busy days as well) and plus the hassle of charging one more device.
The Samsung phones (S9+ and now Note 10+) have inbuilt step count and health app so never bothered again. lol:

I use a cheap 4k Android phone for capturing cycling stats as a beater though.

Haha not really. Myself a foodie and I hope I am somewhat okay with 74kg at the age of 26. stupid:

Apart from the "beater" role, I use it mainly to track my sleep data, and in Mi band it's fun as you can add your friend's watch to compare your stats with his/her's daily. Charging the bands were not a hectic task for me with Mi bands providing close to 25 days of battery backup generally. Battery backup was one reason for me to pick bands over smart watches. I am evaluating the new Huawei Gt2e watch as it has got excellent battery backup of around 15 days.

BTW the step counter in mobiles shows considerable amount of variation with real world data.

My Team-BHP hoodie - premium in quality and good looking but rugged and fairly affordable at the same time! I wear it whenever I'm too lazy to decide what shirt to wear inside but want to look presentable!

These are my beater shoes when I don't want to take out Jordans or the other Nike Sneakers.

Very comfortable and very cheap for the quality they offer.

Another usual suspect is the free EarPods we get with apple phones, I have Bose and AirPods as well but use the EarPods when I am out for a run or a meeting. The quality is much better than usual headphones and they do like much simpler than the fancy looking headphones we get usually for 2000.

If ever there was 'beater' food.

I always carry roasted chickpeas and Jaggery with me. Its in my laptop bag, in small pouches in the car, kept in small jars in my study table etc.
